rc10gt desire help

Post by the13bats »

On the nitro versions of trucks,
I cant claim to have the mental dexterity to keep each model clear in my head but im guessing you cats savvy to them will know what im babbling about, and set me straight.

Ill grab pictures of the blue when im out in the bats cave again,

I have 2 nitro trucks i like the best, black tub pans, pull start, mip stinger, one is going to be the drive train of a dirt oval project im doing, im going to swap pull start for electric start, and might have to go stock low exhaust.

Like this,
Black rc10gt
Black rc10gt
I also saw in my bone yard one with a blue chassis, not a tub and the front suspension isnt on a removable unit,

So couple questions,
Which type in general more desirable and why,
Would a person likely swap me a black tub version for my blue chassis style or tell me im nuts for even dreaming that idea,

Thanks for the clue in,

Cheers
b

There's a lot of information to post about the black tub and blue pan versions of trucks, too much for a little phone screen, lol.

In short my opinion is the black tub trucks are more collectable. The blue pan trucks have a slightly longer chassis and are more rigid then the black tubs. Aside from different materials/designs the only really difference between the black pan trucks and blue pan trucks are the chassis, engine mount, body (and nose tube mounts).

Your blue pan is the RTR model which is the one I would use for the dirt oval project. I doubt someone would swap a black chassis for a blue chassis unless it was a mint 1st generation RTR chassis or someone was restoring/building an FT version of the blue pan.

Okay,
Ty,

When i suggest swaps im not one who cares if i do best, i care about just getting a part i need at times,

So lets say i go with blue for DO project

Its longer wheelbase could be hacked ahem fixed by cutting off its nose and using a buggy gold pan nose drilled for whatever wheelbase i desire,
But out back will buggy rear arms bolt on to the blue?

i saw a build on here where a guy made a black tub nitro truck into a slick nitro buggy that looked like how associated would have built it, he even wemt gold on the tub,
Im not all about stock but less hacking is always better to me,

I guess you need a vision of what you want it to be and build it to that vision. The GT is a very versatile platform. It also depends on the finish quality your after, do you want it to look hacked or engineered, nothing wrong with either.....

The rc10 rear suspension should bolt right up to the gt chassis and plenty of bugges run the truck nose with longer arms.

Hacked or well engineered is a bit of perception, in a way,

Some purists would say that anything at all not stock is a hack that ruined the car, my flares or 454 do not in my opinion ruin my 69,

Im an old school gear head, before "ratrod" started to mean any pos painted flat black we called it jalopy building the best you could with what you had,
Duct tape and bailing wire is hack no matter what,

The nitro buggy build i mentioned on here is to me a top shelf build however,
He did have to drill holes and make little mods that a purist would see as hack job,

I build my RC stuff just like my real stuff, patina is hard to fake but my 69 is built to appear to be an old road racer, barn found and only what was needed done to get it running and driving happened,
Of course it runs aftermarket suspension, and everything is rebuilt or replaced to make it a safe sound car, so it wont fool a purist,

My babble aside, i have about 4 different 10 project in my mind at once, and its far easier for me to say how much work ( or hacking ) does it take to do this or that as i am pretty sure someone somewhere has already done or tried to do what i plan...
