Jrx2 retrofit tranny?

Post by Burniefloyd »

So for the last 10 years or so I have been struggling to find my niche in the hobby. At first I thought it was build and restoring because I was a 90's kid but I have a short attention span and bought more than I built/restored. Then I sold off a lot of my vintage stuff for some newer stuff and realized I just don't enjoy driving all that much as we don't have any tracks or organized racing so driving around. A baseball field was dull. Crawlers are no fun because slow doesn't do it for me.

I have always enjoyed painting hard bodies (hate lexan) and building is still fun so recent stay at home order have gotten me to work on the projects I kept and beer has put me back on eBay...

Now to the actual question. Some drunken browsing has bought me a Jr-x2, that I didn't notice until after the fact, has no transmission. I have read about the "retrofit" xx transmission but the term retrofit is always in quotes. Will any xx transmission fit or of there is a specific "retrofit" transmission case I need to find the Jr-x2?  Additionally if it is a separate case is the hearing the same as in the xx?

The Jr-x2 hasn't arrived yet but I do have a disassembled xx in my parts bin so I was wondering if I can use that transmission or if I need to keep an eye out for a retrofit tranny case?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Jason

Wouldn't you know but after I posted one of the "similar topics" below was a parts list for the retrofit tranny. Looks like I need to find the grey xx trans case...

Now that you mentioned it, I've always wondered if the XX/T trans gears and internals are the same as the retro fit trans. I assume that they are, but you know what is said about assuming... I need to look into this. :D

The internals are not the same across XX/XXT because I think the ratio was different (probably different diff gear).

The retrofit Pro-SE/LXT case is different fro the XX/XXT case again iirc.

The Pro-Se had the same LRM case as the JRX2 iirc, and the Pro-SE could receive the Retrofit... so chances are that, yes, the JRX2 can get "retrofitted" :)

That's a lot of iirc's :)

I also assumed I could use the same internals if I found a case but the more I look for one the more I find "retrofit" internals. If I ever find a case I guess I'll find out what I need lol.

The internals from a XX buggy 2.19 trans are a direct fit in the 2.19 XX Retro/Grey case if you can find one... Same for 2.61

Awesome, thank you! Coincidentally enough I found one on eBay this morning and grabbed it. I was trying to be calm and not buy everything labeled retrofit before it arrived and I could check.

That's what I was wondering about. Thank you!

Retrofit trans case is in. Picked one up for my JrxT also but I may keep it original as I had it as a kid.

Also picked up a lot of mostly internal gear just in case my xx trans gears are shot
