Titanium is one of those funny metals, like aluminum, where the pure stuff is harder to machine because it's gummy/smears. I buy 6AL-4V grade 5 from mcmaster carr in 1/8" diameter x 1 ft lengths. it cuts much like aluminum but don't let the tool bit rub, it will work harden. parting/grooving is one of the most difficult processes to do across the board, especially on a light machine; I keep the material tight to the chuck, bring the tool up to the work, zero it and plunge to depth in one shot. I believe threading , especially internally is tough on titanium due to the cutting forces. I don't do much single point threading, but I should.

I found some .125 ground rod & am gonna try this as soon as i get arpund to it.
