new (to me) monster clodbuster

lhs called me saying they had a few old rc cars i could have, that someone left in their store (perks of being the guy that has tons of old rc stuff no one else wants lol)

one of the trucks was this monster clodbuster.
i add the shocks, otherwise it still sits like i got it. i did a bit of research and at first i thought it was a custom scratch built truck, but i have since found 2 other examples online with almost the exact same chassis setup. anyone know if this was a kit, or if it is indeed a custom job.

What you have there is a Clodzilla 2 Chassis produced by ESP. It was the first Clod kit they sold. Then they had the Clodzilla 3, Clodzilla 4, and finally the Rockzilla. If you notice there's no Clodzilla 1. It reached prototype stage but never made it into production. It was basically just a Clod with a Sassy Chassis as ESP manufactured Sassy Chassis' products for them in the very beginning. That's some long lost information for ya.

They've been out of business a long time but showed back up on Facebook about two years ago, and sold some of these Clodzilla 2 kits off: https://www.facebook.com/esphobby/

from the pics on their facebook page looks like im missing the upper shock mounts and the bumper
i ended up just buying extra long (110 mm) shocks for it , but i may 3d print some shock mounts and a bumper ,and use some shorter shocks to improve geometry

What came stock in the Clodzilla 2 kit according to the old clodparts.com site was as follows:

Ladder Frame Chassis
Long Wheelbase Multi-Link Kit
Heavy Duty Steering Rods
Suspension Lift Kit
Aluminum Hi-Lift Body Mounts

ESP also sold numerous aluminum Clod parts separately from what was included in the kits.

now to find a body
its freaking huge ,what body should i use . not wanting to buy a factory hard body .should i look at 1/8 scale bodies , or stick to 1/10

1/8th scale would be to big I'd bet. Stampede sized body should fit better, looks like a pretty short wheelbase

What's nice about 4 link suspension on Clods is that you can easily lengthen or shorten the wheelbase to fit any body you like just by changing the links.

the wheelbase is not so much the problem as the top chassis is really long ,every body i have here is to small ,the only one that fit over it is the one om my old 1st run ecx ruckus

I don't know how long the frame rails are as I haven't had a Clodzilla chassis in a long time but they were designed for the stock Clod body. Looking around and asking on ClodTalk might give you an answer.

The clodzilla 2 chassis is nearly identical to the stock plastic tub, dimensionally. Basically, you could swap in the clodzilla 2 chassis and reuse all your stock parts, and be on your way. Even the bracket on the front was meant to use the stock front chrome bumper. Any 1/10 truck body should work, but not the form fitting stadium truck bodies. JConcepts makes a bunch of bodies that are perfect for the clod.

i went ahead an purchased a Jconcepts 0305 1979 Ford F-250 Monster Truck Clear Body ,hopefully it will fit (its supposed to be a direct clod buster replacement)
now just neet to figure out what i want to do for motors
i have never really messed with clod axles what pinion size do i need and whats a recommended motor setup on these things

Got some more progress done on it body is painted (pink is the only color i had left with all the hobby stores closed for the lock down. I actually think its fitting for the era lol)
and printed a headache rack and some kc lights.

www.clodtalk.com has loads of discussion topics about motors and electronics. The simplest, and cheapest, option is to run the stock silver can motors with an ESC that's capable of handling a 3s lipo, and run a 3s. That extra 3.7V makes a huge difference, and those motors will last a good while even on 11.1V. That body looks great (but you need to turn the tires around ).
