UK RC10 Classics Rebuild

Post by smorhall »

Hi,
Just thought I'd share some pics of my recently restored RC10 Classics in the UK.
I got an old knackered RC10 CE shipped from New Jersey through eBay and went to town on it, it's the orange bodied and gold rimmed one of the two.
It had a stealth gearbox, I wanted to replace this with the 6 gear version for nostalgic reasons, so ended up getting some trick casings from d-hawk, then got carried away as you can see!
Rebuilding the top lay shaft with the small thrust race was a challenge. Following a downloaded copy of the instructions I managed to source most of the parts from all over the world, but ended up making my own small thrust race as I couldn't get a proper spare.
By the time this was done, I'd accumulated so much spare stuff I was able to build another chassis!
The chassis and shocks on the red bodied car are new, I had the shocks and chassis on the orange one stripped and anodised, so they are really mint.
The red RC10 is a bit of a hybrid between the original RC10 and the later CE. The stealth gearbox is actually really nice, but I still prefer the original 6 gear.
I had an RC10 back in the mid 80's as a kid, after a couple of green with envy years looking at my best mates RC10 while I was making do with A Tamiya Boomerang! Since then I always wanted an original shelf queen RC10, and unfortunately missed the re-release a few years ago so had to do it the hard way.
Anyway hope you enjoy the pics, I got a lot of inspiration during the builds by checking out the pics on this site, so thanks for spurring me on to build my own.
Cheers,
Simon,

sorry about the editing part. I sent you a pm about it.

I believe it was why you modded the front end on the one car from xlr8...
