UMP Dymond. This arrived in a Coyote bundle and having hunted a little it appears from the advert as though there was some sort of link between UMP and TAG/SG... the US importer for the Coyote maybe? Perhaps this was the original motor which came with the car? Red label gives a clue to the spec. Should look quite nice if i ever get around to cleaning it - the label certainly looks good.

Couple of other curiosities.... the same guy that sold me the super-rare Reedy 'BK Select' was a team Reedy driver right from the early to mid-80's. He recently let me have this pair of unusual motors which he told me had come directly from Mike, but I haven't even opened them up yet to see what they actually are. He tells me the green one had the 'double red' dots on it from when he had it, and it was referred to as such.

Curious '83 sticker on the red one also. (I do know Jimmy featured well at the '83 1/12 Worlds).

Pretty cool anyway.

Here's a very tidy SRM Scorcher 'green edition'.... from 1990.

dinglem wrote: Tue May 21, 2019 9:13 pm Interesting discovery when opening up one of the pink Team MG motors... this one is an 11Triple, which unusually appears to have two different wire diameters. From what i gather there is an ideal amount or cross section of copper you can get on each type of armature, and if you are struggling to get for example a double wound using a wire gauge of say 0.8 if you put 0.8 and a 0.75 it will be a lot easier. I have heard of Mike Reedy doing such things but this is the first MG armature i have ever seen like this. Kinda cool anyway. I am by no means an expert and am just going on what I have been told by a motor builder who used to work alongside Mike at times, so if anybody knows better than please please fill us in.

They all have a spec hand-written on the can. The vast majority are 11Singles, with the wire diameters noted (1.18, 1.25 or 1.32). This one oddball has 11 x 3.
I am not sure if you saw my older post on this very question but it may further explain a bit. https://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=78&t=43374&p=492748#p492367

Thanks for the comments GeneralZod. Nice to know people like to see the probably more unusual motor makes from the UK market. I have a few different threads running in this section which tend to focus in on a particular motor, but still have this main one going (and going..!) which tends to list them all.

I have had just over 20 of my motors built by a well known motor builder, and he has a batch of them right now in fact. We have access to Zappers and he has a lot of tricks and know-how as he was actually a motor builder himself bitd.

It has been a nice journey revisiting the brushed motor scene after so many years, and I am enjoying learning more than I ever knew as a young teenager back then. I have the speed now, it's just a shame my driving isn't like it once was(!)

I certainly enjoy seeing your motor collection and the refurbishment results. The bling just always leaves me speechless... or I would comment more. 8)

Here's a set of three engraved of MG Magnums. One on the left is a HPI based Red TE (Top End), which refers to a 13 Quad. The arm has RTE written on it and looking at the windings is certainly a quad. One on the right is an earlier label Magnum (phone number and smaller lettering) and has Works Unit 02, Magnum and 14dbl engraved on it. Both are signed by Mick Goddard.

This third one is a Magnum 'Blue' spec, which refers to a 15Quad.

None of these have been looked at or cleaned yet, let alone rebuilt, so that will be the next job.

16 Triple has always been a favorite wind of mine. Back in the late 80's this was seen as a hot wind, with anything more that this being considered too much for the cells available to the mainstream driver. I ran a Demon 16Triple and it was awesome. Last year I was sent a batch of old motors which had been stored in a box in a garage and were in pretty rough shape. One was a complete but sad looking MG Magnum 16Triple.... However, it came from the legendary driver Ian Oddie, so I was hoping this might turn out to be a bit special. It looks a mess on the outside (understatement), although you can still make out the MAGNUM engraving, along with 16 Triple and Mick's signature. After a rebuild by Glyn Ward, it is back up and running 8)

Hello,
many motors are also from my race time from 85 - 89. We had MIH Master Blaster, Reedys and the great Demon like yours. The 16 turn with the 1200SC and 1200SCR was great.
With my Turbo Optima Mid and Demon Motors from Michael Kleinschmitt, the Germany Importeur for Demon Products. Please show us more pics. because memories!
At this winter I`m looking for a rebuild from my old 87 Mid with also the old RC-electronic stuff like Servo, Controller, Receiver, Battery and Transmitter, not easy to find this old stuff...

Yes, I do like the look of the old MRP motors. I have a 550 in the back of a carpet racing Meteor, and also have a 553 off being rebuilt at the minute.

Here are a couple of beauties. The first is a brand spanking new 13Double Race Prep ceramic armature, and the second is a RacePrep ceramic armature which was wound by Mick Goddard of MG, that one being an 11Triple. MG sold their 'Super Magnum' through the summer of 1991 which utilized the ceramic armatures and also had red AYK endbells. I do have the rest of the Super Magnum so just need to put it back togther again - currently waiting on a service.
