Thanks ,I guess the end goal is to get it running with no original parts at all , right now I'm stuck on the rear dog bones because of the different ends but I'm thinking if I can find some the right length with 6 mm ball ends I might be able to print a clip on adapter to make the ball 8mm , I could press in a longer pin as well if needed .
For front shafts I found an eBay shop selling various length dog bones , they listed 61 and 63mm , what I need is 62mm but I ordered a set of both in the hopes that one will be OK , I thing the 63mm ones should be OK .
Today I made up the square drives for the axles , I'm still waiting on the flanged bearings for the front square drives but I fitted the one ways with just a touch of green locktight , I've got some plain bearings in there at the moment and fitted them and the wheels , its very satisfying to have at least the front wheels on , I have to make some sleeves for the rear axles before I can fit them and I need some m4 set screws to lock the square drives on as well .
I have an all metal hot end fitted to the 3d printer now(Micro Swiss ) , its needed in order to get higher temperatures for printing Nylon , the stock hot end has a PTFE liner that can emit some very toxic gasses if you go above 250°C and Nylon needs higher temperatures , I've ordered the Nylon filament I need for the gears and sprockets but it won't come till next week .
I guess the next bit to fabricate will be the motor plate and the last big purchase will be ladder chain but I can put that off for a little longer .

N2ocapri had shapeways print stainless bones and they held up just fine for him, might be worth asking if they are still holding up.

I couldn't find any measurements when I was building my OIN car - so I made my own to the exact specs that I needed and had them 3d printed out of stainless! So far they are working fine. The car has been 69mph with them! lol

They are 2.7" pin to pin - can be customized though...

I'm fairly certain that rc10 dogbones are really close. I think they are the same as dominator.

For what it's worth, I happened to have a set of vintage RC10 bones and a set of calipers in front of me:
Center to center of Pins: 2.20" [55.88mm]
Ball Diameter: 0.24" [6.09mm]
Overall Length: 2.45" [62.23mm]

The front dog bones need to be 62 mm long with 6 mm balls but that's not the problem , the rears have 6 mm outer balls and 8 mm inner balls that are flattened on the end so the balls are different sizes on each end and the 8 mm end has a 12 mm pin not 10 mm , cant remember the length right now .
The RC10 dog bones are too large at the ball , I tried them before , even tried to mod them but it was not successful for me , is a shame as the length is right , I guess if they are well worn or the cups are worn they might work .

All the new bits fitted , the eagle eyed among you might notice I've done some vapor smoothing to the ABS parts , this smooths out a lot of the layer lines and gives a more shiny surface ,it also adds a little strength , its done by using acetone soaked into tissue and placed into a sealed container with the part for about an hour , the vapor melts the surface a little .

Made up a very simple roll bar to mount shocks at the rear and fitted some Pargu front shock mounts with a cheap shock i had laying about , its still got genuine rear shafts , no chain or front shafts yet but i could run it 2wd now if i wanted , oh i threw some tires on as well .

Looks great Dadio. That acetone vapor bath process appears to work very well.
Just curious, does anyone sell filament that could be used to 3d print tires - perhaps just for use on a display model?

The material exists and people do print tyres and even toothed belts but the design options are limited , the flexible filaments don't work well with supports so a track racing slick tyre is easy to print but an off road spiked tyre would be very difficult , a ribbed tyre like the Sand Scorcher rear tyre would be the best off road tyre you could print or a herringbone V rib could be done easy enough , if you had a printer with dual extruders you can print with a water soluble support material and that might work for a spiked tyre, if it was strictly for the shelf then you could just print it in hard plastic like ABS with removable supports , that might even be a good idea to keep those nice perishable rubber tyres in vacuums bags out of the sun and you could even display the car resting on its wheels as well .Have a look on YouTube for Ninjaflex , that's one of the softer filaments .

I just found this thread. All I can say is, wow! I have wondered for some time when someone would recreate the gear box for the old Yok. It's the single most difficult part to find. You've gone so much further and done virtually the whole car! Just amazing work!

Thanks , I'm not sure what other parts there are that are suitable for 3d printing , I keep getting tempted to do a copy of the Funco Half body and print it in TPU a soft material almost rubbery but I'm more likely to just buy one ,there's no point inventing the wheel .

Redesigned rear arms , the white one was one of the first models i made in Fusion 360 and although i was pleased with it then i later deleted it as it was too flawed , so the two black arms are the new design , a closer copy of the original , one is straight off the printer and the other has been vapor smoothed .



on close inspection you might notice a raised section around the front pivot hole , the car originally had a washer there to space it well into the mount , these have been printed with an integrated washer but i have a model without as well if you wanted to fit washers .

The one on the right looks like it was injection molded. Very nice!
I'm still in awe; you've only had a printer a few months and had to learn to use Fusion, etc. It's amazing what your able to make.

Its been kind of a mind bomb in a good way , I just wish all this had been around when I was a kid not now that I'm nearly 50 but I'm making the most of it !
