New Member, new to me RC10T

Hi all! I caught the r/c bug again and plan on working on an RC10T with my son. I only had Tamiyas growing up but I always wanted an RC10. Now I can actually afford it. Anyways I found a deal locally, and it came with a lot of spares. The truck itself looks heavily modified, so I can't quite ID it. Additionally, the battery is transverse, as opposed to inline like the pics I've seen here. hope the link works. Here are some pics...https://link.shutterfly.com/JUmZJtnW9X

Great purchase, looks like it has potential.

MODS:

RPM arms
RPM stealth transmission
RPM shock guards
Aluminum front shock tower
Nice street tires
Ti turnbuckles
Blue shock caps instead of black

battery orientation can go either way depending how you position electronics.

Thanks! He also gave me a set of brand new AE CF shock towers, so I plan on installing that on the rebuild. I do have the original 3-piece wheels on hand, but I'm looking to get new 1-piece wheels to use modern rubber on dirt/lawn. As it stands I'm looking to run vintage electronics as well, but the brushless motors and Lipo batteries are very enticing. I'll figure it out along the way I guess.

Sorted out and running

So I disassembled the truck, and found out a few things:
1. It's a C stamp chassis with a few mods as you can see in the pics.
2. I tried installing the rear CF shock tower, but they are for a T2 and the holes did not line up with the bulkhead. Found a T2 bulkhead, but that did not line up with the chassis holes, so I went back to the original tower.
3. I opened up the diff and found it covered in black gunk. Rebuilt it with the proper silicone. Clutch pad might be pretty close to done. I've been looking around for a replacement but no luck. I might have to go the T4 upgrade with the clutch.
4. I found some NOS proline wheels that will allow me to use 2.2 tires but I ordered the wrong tires for it. I didn't realize that there was such a thing as 2.2/3.0. LOL waiting for replacements to arrive.
5. removed the old electronics and went with brushless set up- Hobbywing 13.5/Justock ESC combo, and a Trackstar TS920 digital servo. Control via Sanwa MX-6. I'm running a 3000maH NiMh battery but I'm thinking of getting a shorty Lipo in the future.

I thought this setup would haul on the streets, using the old street tires on it. However, I'm guessing that it's going as fast as my old frog with a stock 540 motor in it. Not sure what's up. I'll recharge battery and test again later. I can hear the clutch slip for a second before hooking up, and definitely hear it slip when powering through turns, but it seems ok on straights, just slow. I wonder if it's the gearing...

Glad you're up and running. I haven't messed with brushless motors, but I do believe they want more gear than a typical brushed setup.

As for the shock towers, J Concepts makes some nice carbon pieces. RC Carbon Works also, but their site has been down for a while.

The slipper clutch would best be replaced with the T4 topshaft and slipper setup as you stated. Much better than the original.
