B3/T3 tub restoration

Post by PBR Allstar »

Curious if anyone’s done much in the way of polishing/sanding the scuffs off later plastic tubs? Like starting around a 400 grit wet paper and working finer?

I have not done that, but have done a quick dunk in dye to hide some of the minor stuff with good results. It does not really change the color but sort of blends the scratches in with rest. This actually works on graphite too, not perfect but quite a bit better when done.

also depends in my opinion if you have the Factory Team tub or not... The non FT is a bit more shiny and sanding that down... I wouldn't recommend that. The FT tub has a more matte finish to it. Perhaps you can try sanding that down, but I haven't tried that (yet).

I’ve done 800 to 1000 grit lightly on my last resto. I followed up with a wipe down with a little WD40. There weren’t many scratches to begin with.

Worst thing was getting the old foam padding off the chassis. That stuff is the debil!
