Re: Restored Turbo Optima
Those are some great looking paint schemes. I always gravitate toward doing box art bodies because I'm not very creative. It's nice to see something creative and different. Very nice!

Great box photo recreation! You really nailed it. I really like that paint scheme as well.

Oh sh|t! I just noticed you actually staged the photo with a similar coast line to the magazine photo! Hahaha, nice job all around. Great looking car.

Thanks Doug, I love the box art look of the Kyosho's but I enjoy the design and painting process so I always do a custom job.

Re: Restored Turbo Optima
Thanks - I always liked that magazine paint job, it was the one that inspired me to get into painting RC cars and I always wanted to recreate it - just took me 30+ years to finally do it!!

Re: Restored Turbo Optima
Yep, original 1986 NIB Turbo Optima, had it for a few years now and got it for a pretty good price. I will be getting a re-release too later on.MrChin wrote: ↑Thu Apr 18, 2019 6:12 pmIs it an oriiginal NIB? Must be super rare these days! I always thought the Turbo Optima was the best looking car, even today. I'm pleased they re-released it, but in my mind the original still has the edge - think its the tyres and shocks on the 80's version that makes the difference.

Re: Restored Turbo Optima
Keith, just that 240s motor in that vintage kit is worth $250 easy!

Re: Restored Turbo Optima
$250 really? That's about half the price I paid for the kit. Part of the reason for buying it was because my brother had one, and I converted my original Optima into a Turbo.

Re: Restored Turbo Optima
Will do - I started stripping down the Turbo Rocky last night...so I'll begin separate post for that one shortly.XLR8 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 18, 2019 2:16 pmAwesome! Please post pics when they're finished -- or better yet, please document your re-builds here.MrChin wrote: ↑Thu Apr 18, 2019 2:00 pmI do yes, both were intact although one had clearly had a harder life than the other. I used a good set of shock towers on another Optima (non Turbo) I was finishing at the time, so end up putting Optima re-re shock towers on the restored Turbo. The other Turbo is an a box, and I have body for it, not sure what I'll do with it yet....besides, I've just picked up a Turbo Rocky that's next up for an overhaul![]()

Re: Restored Turbo Optima
Wow! Thanks for the pic - its increbidle that there are some NIB after 33 years, I think it just shows how iconic and memorable these cars are. I restored this one because Kyosho had gone very quiet on the re-re's and I didn't expect the Turbo Optima would arrive anytime soon, or maybe ever. I'd still like to get one though.keithrc wrote: ↑Fri Apr 19, 2019 8:13 pmYep, original 1986 NIB Turbo Optima, had it for a few years now and got it for a pretty good price. Re: Restored Turbo Optima
Yep, I wanted to reproduce the image - fortunately I live near the coast, so I literally applied the last decals one evening and was able to dash out to do the photos while it was still light enough
