A Tale of Two 10s
A Tale of Two 10s
With the recent acquisition of a nice batch of Parts, I am "forced" to start over....AGAIN. I will be buidling one MOSTLY by the book (R/C10 Manual, (c) 1984 Associated Electrics, Inc ). The other I will put together with what I have at hand, until I can get the "proper" parts.
The "At Hand" Chassis started like this
By lvlonster at 2008-03-05
and went to this (not "pretty", but FINE for my purpose)
By lvlonster, shot with KODAK EASYSHARE C300 DIGITAL CAMERA at 2008-03-05
Then from this
By lvlonster, shot with KODAK EASYSHARE C300 DIGITAL CAMERA at 2008-03-05
to this
By lvlonster, shot with KODAK EASYSHARE C300 DIGITAL CAMERA at 2008-03-05
The last 2 viewed in a Slide Show look really cool....like MAGIC!!!
Gathering info and adding parts as I type. More pics to come!!!

Re: A Tale of Two 10s
So, what do you think so far?
I HATE having those Purple Shocks on there, but Im sure they'll have to do until I can get the other car finished. My "Needs" List is GROWING again, so Im waiting on a eBAy STEAL for some dirty old roller to help.
I beleieve I have the wrong Steering Blocks on the Short Arm Car. At a certain point in there travel, they hit the Arm and wont turn as far. I thought I matched them up to what was in the manual. Anyway, hopefully another Roller will come up that will allow me to Properly finish both Cars soon. Anybody here got Deal on 1 for me?

Re: A Tale of Two 10s
Pardon my inexperience, but if you mean the ones that the Kingpin does NOT go through the Axle, then yes. And not being familiar with the Part Numbers (Manual "says" #6216), the Manual pictures look like what I have. The picture of the Axle doesnt look like it has a hole in it for the Kingpin either.scr8p wrote:do you have the offset steering knuckles on the short arm car?
Re: A Tale of Two 10s
So, I need the NON Offset Blocks? That'll mean I have to find the Axles for them. I have the NON Offset Blocks.

Re: A Tale of Two 10s
Hmm, so I wonder why I have this problem? It barely hits, but it will hinder Steering and/or Shock Travel the way it is. I'll give it another, closer look. Anyone else ever had this problem? I REALLY dont want to "alter" that car, at all.scr8p wrote:the short arm car is supposed to have the offset steering knuckles.
Re: A Tale of Two 10s
Only other difference could be if you're running 30 degrees caster blocks rather than 20?
Re: A Tale of Two 10s
So, this is my problem?
I have a couple more Sets of the ones on the right. I guess I could switch to them, but would that just make the "rubbing" start at a bit higher point? *sigh* I guess I could just try it and see, huh? Ok, Im going.
Anybody wanna take a guess at what degree these 2 Sets are?

Re: A Tale of Two 10s
Yeah you've got 30 degrees ones on the left, with 20 the steering arm just misses the suspension arm at full droop.
Re: A Tale of Two 10s
Ok, heres one of em!! How'd I do? Only thing I think I have wrong, is a 2 Hole Rear Shock Tower (i have a 1 Hole for it).
I followed the '84 Manual I have, and match the parts to the pics as best I could. Am I close to a TRUE Original 1984 Buggy?

Re: A Tale of Two 10s
You're almost done, nice resto by the way, but the '84 buggy had two battery cups to mount the battery transversally

That holey chassis looks just like one a buddy of mine did many years ago right after the original Ultima hit the market.
Re: A Tale of Two 10s
Thanks!! I've been debateing on the Double Cups thing. Doesnt it handle better with the batts down the center, and wouldnt most people have done it this way after they figured it out? I may still add another Cup, just havent decided.

Re: A Tale of Two 10s
it surely does handle better with the battery cup in the center (but then if you have an original chassis, you'll have to drill two new holes in order for the battery cup to be lined up with the rear bulkhead), the 2 battery cup set-up is unavoidable if you mount a MSC in it...
