RC 10 DS "Graphit Tub"

Post by works92 »

A few month ago I've had the chance to be the only bidder on this:

Image

i always really appreciate and been inspired by DS builds on this forum
since now I only have interest for pan-cars; but I decided to give this sublime car a second life
but in wich way ? choices are multiple.
the carbon tub chassis inspiring me high performance , so slick tires will fit it nicely
a pro10 body will be the perfect option for this rear motor 2wd car, but i'm pretty sure it doesn't fit
so i'm gonna make an old child dream come true by dress it with a NASCAR body

the car is in an overall pretty good shape so a simple deep cleaning/rebuilding session will be enough
So let me show you my RC10 DualSport "GraphiteTube" project

Yep, I'll be watching too!

Is that a Fibre-Lyte chassis?

:)

The seller doesn't tell me more about the car, so I can't say where the chassis come from
my first guess is Fiberlyte too, 'cause the car came from Netherlands ... plus I don't know other brands which made carbon chassis tub
(as far as I know ComCom and Hansell composites are Fiberlyte products)

I doesn't make a definitive decision about the Nascar livery or the paint scheme
maybe a Team Associated livery with an RC10 R5 box art colors inspiration (modernized)
and of course big numbers :) (probably customized)

Given that this build wasn't expected, it will be a budget one.

So the body will be a modern Protoform RT-C

Image

For the slick tires I'm gonna use F1 wheels

First, the cleaning/rebuilding stage

Image
Image

everything is in a pretty good condition , I just took a particular attention to the diff.
silicon grease turned bad with years and outdrives are covered of kind of glue/glaze

next step the chassis...

After a good cleaning/polishing session the chassis looks a bit shiny (and younger) 8)

Time to refit front and rear ends

Really surprised with the rear shocks angle, I suppose it won't work pretty well on bumpy tracks
New ballstud foam are on the way
So now, time to fit the F1 wheels (metric) on this US beauty (imperial)...

Actual F1 wheels like fit RC10F6
It probably be easier making the mod to fit tc wheels (like CRC slicks)
But I want to make the less possible changes

So I adapted 14mm hex to imperial rear axles
And I'm gonna order front F6 axles

I doesn't find 14mm wheel hex fitting US sized axles, so I modified metrics ones :
I fulfilled the hole with solder
Image
then I drill it
Image

F1 rear wheels got to much offset , I machined them:

the rear is done ,

now I hope F6 front axle fit the hubs and it should be nice

Ok so RC10F6 front axles need to be a little re-drill (2 tenth) to fit the hinge pins
after this, it fits great :

Still some details to set , like wheels nuts and body mounts
but the overall roller is finished
now the biggest step of this (simple) "build" :
the body and its paint job :)

Thank you Paul ;
I'm on the lowest budget possible on this build (as I have a classic , 2 yok, etc... to come)
so i have to "think different" :) (système D, quoi  )
