Not a lot of tube bending this week, soon though! I got the roof cut and bent this morning, looks fine to me It's made from 0.032" K&S sheet aluminum.

Looks fine to me as well. Did you bend it over a piece of tubing? That curl at the trailing end looks really good. Will you screw it to the cage using some of your 0-80 hardware? The stainless screws against the aluminum will look great.
Can't wait to see what you have in mind for the rest of the car. Great work!!

Those welds are coming along very nice! They must have taken a lot of time, skill and patience.

Just a thought, had you considered eliminating the tower? Maybe small gussets for the shock mounts?
It would probably cause problems for the wing mounts though. Maybe shock alignment problems as well.
I guess I am just not a big fan of the shock mount "adapters".

Yes, spent some serious time shaping the welds... lots of time!

I made some plates for the shock mounts, to be welded to the cage. I have the angle figured out. I may still go that route and totally eliminate the rear shock tower. I could weld some tabs to the cage and make some cool pivots for the wing mounts. Hmmm.... That would look a lot better.

I've been thinking on that, connect the front brace tubes to the cage. It will have to be more than one piece per side... I think. I'll make some pieces and see what you you guys think.

I have been thinking about that. It will have a sheet aluminum roof panel, held on with tiny bolts and a few side panels. Sort of like a sand rail?

I have a JConcepts "Detonator" body that is severely hacked up in the rear portion that I might cut the nose off of, back to the windshield, and mount it on the front. Otherwise, it's going to be '032" thick panels on the side. They will be minimal, don't want to hide to much of the tube cage.

Yes, I bent it over a piece of 3/16" rod, then a little (2mm) "tweak" to the top edge. I"m super pleased with the trailing edge! I'm going to install some 0-80 bhcs's today.

I got started attaching the roof with the 0-80 screws. So far, got the back done. I still have more to do...

It's coming along good, got the rest of the screws done now. Time to clean up the bench, got stuff all piled up!

When I first began making parts for my RC cars bitd, I managed to break a couple 4-40 taps. I quickly learned to properly size the hole, use cutting fluid and run the tap in about 1/2 turn at a time and back it out often to clear the chips. I cannot even imagine the extreme care that must be taken to prevent breaking a 0-80 tap. Not to mention the consequences if you did break it; probably wouldn't be able to extract the broken pieces and the part could be ruined. You have some skill Nomad, there's no doubt about it.
