Hello from Ohio!!
Hello All!
My name is YakkityYak, or in flesh and bones, Joseph.
I've been into R/C since I was a tad smaller, and now have gotten to the age of where I have a job and can actually buy stuff I want to. And just like my bicycles, and my gaming consoles, I'm going to buy something that my Father would've used. (He did race RC10GTs)
I'm currently bidding on an RC10 which looks to be a Teams car, but is labeled in the ad as a GT model. Eitheir way I do hope I win the auction and finally have an RC10 like I've always wanted. And If i dont win the auction than I'm off to find another to purchase.
Once i do acquire one, I'm honestly torn about what to do, Restore it? Upgrade with period-correct parts? Full on modern build? I'd love some advice on what to do once I get one.

Re: Hello from Ohio!!
Welcome!
Depends on your goals with the car. If you want a runner or racer, I would suggest modern electronics and wheels/tires. If you want something more nostalgic and period correct to adorn a shelf and occasionally blast up and down the street then you can find all the correct vintage gear to do so. Or better yet, build one of each!

This website is a great tool to help you decide what you should do once you get that car. Plenty of great builds and pictures to get inspiration from.

RC10 buggy with a 10T (tuck) nose plate?
It would get more exposure/comments if you were to start a thread in the RC10 Buggy Forum.

Re: Hello from Ohio!!
I was going to do that once I had won the auction, that way I wasnt filling it up with questions and pics of a car that might not even end up being mine.
I did develop a plan for it, but two different Paths.
4WD, Mono Shock front, Cheap Brushless Set Up, 12mm Hex wheels, Yadda Yadda...
Vintage Racer with Stealth tranny, Nicer vintage Brushed setup, Old school style. Maybe race it?

Perfectly understandable. I hope you win the auction, I'd go after it myself.

Re: Hello from Ohio!!
So, looks like it wont be the one above as someone has swooped in and sent the price sky high out of my range. Oh well. Trying to find another one.
Currently bidding on an RC12L, May not be a buggy, but maybe I can fix it up and sell it for a buggy.

This is why you keep auctions you want to go after to yourself.YakkityYak wrote: ↑Sun Jun 10, 2018 7:42 am So, looks like it wont be the one above as someone has swooped in and sent the price sky high out of my range. Oh well. Trying to find another one.

Not saying that is the reason for the price jump. But, you never want to open up the potential bidding pool.
Also, buying pan cars to restore and flip to make money, unless you get them dirt cheap or free, I wouldn't bother. Pan cars just don't seem to bring money.... unless they're Delta's.

Re: Hello from Ohio!!
Good news! I got one! And I think this may be an even better deal since it's basically ready to run!!

I asked the seller and he said the Grey/Silver is paint, anyone know how to strip it without harming the anodizing? My guess is if it was painted when it was young, then it should look new under the paint! That's just an assumption though.
The smile on my face is about as wide as can be. Do I need to make a sacrifice or do a ritual to join the all mighty RC10 crew? Haha, This will be quite the adventure.

Re: Hello from Ohio!!
Welcome and congrat's on your new acquisition. It looks like you have a diamond in the rough. Although I have no experience removing rattle can paint from anno, I think you'll want to avoid using any of the acid based strippers. You might look for products that are made to remove graffiti.

Re: Hello from Ohio!!
I have used this product to remove hardware-store paint from a motorcycle once. It's soy-based so it's not harmful. It's also not cheap but there may be similar lower cost products out there.

Re: Hello from Ohio!!
I'll look into such products, I may just leave it as is. Just like my 1968 Iverson Rodarunner Bicycle. "Its only original once!"
Also, if anyone has any clue what "edition" this is, that would be wonderful in helping me decide on what to do with it.
