Re-re scorpion and the likes tire size?

Post by Lonestar »

Hi guys,

can anyone let me know what's the inner size of the Front and Rear tires for the Scorpion/Beetle/Toma re-re's, in inch equivalent, please?

(you can see where this is going, I assume...)

Thanks :)

I just built a re-re Turbo Scorpion a couple months back. It uses 2.2 front & rear. Any modern 2.2 2wd front & rear buggy tires will fit. In the kit, the fronts have white letter "Sand Super" logos. The rears are solid black-wall but the kit includes decals if you want "Sand Super" on the rear tires. I didn't use the decals on the rears as they probably wouldn't last 5-minutes, but they may be ok on a shelf queen.

I am just unboxing a 2014 Beetle kit now that I hope to start building tomorrow. The Beetle, Scorpion & Tomahawks all use the same tire size. The fronts are 2" and the rears are 1.5". The tires included in the kit are hard compound for the front and medium compound for the rear. I have a 2nd set of soft rears that were purchased separately that I plan to use for this buggy and am going to order some soft & medium compound fronts to see how they perform. The hard fronts are so hard they almost feel like plastic. I'm sure they would understeer terribly bashing on a hard surface like a concrete driveway or even asphalt. They are so hard that I doubt they would distort with tall gearing and a 3.5T brushless setup.

I know the 2.2's are the way to go for pure performance, but the 2" front, 1.5" rear combo with a fat meaty sidewall gives a great scale appearance. Below are the 2" / 1.5" wheels & tires that are going on my Beetle.
