Lord oh Lord this is killing me
(what's up with the splice on the battery + wire? Was there some kind of external fuse on the "4"?
Paul
Hey Paul, yes these early Novak ESC had no built in shortcut protection system and it was recommended to install a blade type fuse, typically used in 1/1 cars, to avoid any unwanted damage. These early ESC were costing as much as a kit back then

Thanks for the continuous education... I had never realized that... Will need to reopen my box-of-old-hoarded-speedoes to check if any of them has something similar!

Yup it was very common BITD to use these fuses. I think Futaba even made an ESC that included a specific slot for such a fuse. Maybe the 210CB?
Here is a picture of the very first NOVAK ESC (used on the RC10 box art). Note that there are only 3 wires instead of four, large on/off switch, 3 pots, machined heat sinks and no screws to attach the two half cases, just a black tape like for the NER-2S receiver! It was never described or pictured in their official online timeline though.
And here is a Novak 1 ESC without the label and was most probably produced just after the one above.

Et voilà! Stole the body from a car I would like to sell and added Autographics numbers. Paint scheme inspired from the Winning Edge RC10 video. I need to track old white AE logos to finish it off. A yellow Sanyo pack would be great too.

Very sweet paint job, with extra shading on the blue translucent paint... lovely final result - as expected!

Hi guys, long time since my last post here, my little son Timo was born last Friday and I couldn't sleep a wing for two days. I'm so happy, the boy is perfect and the delivery went really smooth. After 4 days at the hospital, we came home and there...

I remember this older thread, again great information on the Novak's. Thanks!
While racing one day at our local indoor track, we had a gentleman come up to me (since I was running my gold tub RC10), and asked me if I would be interested in buying any of his old RC10 cars and trucks. I told him I am interested but would have...

Yes
But AE had new tires made before they moved onto Cadillac - maybe only first 3 to 6 months of RC10 production had AYK tires :?:
I don't usually hunt for vintage r/c cars on Craigslist because most of them are pretty thrashed. I was bored and decided to see if there were any used JRx2's to finish off my projects when I came across someone selling a Radio Control Car posted 6...

Gawd, if I could find someone these days to custom paint my RC bodies for twenty eight bucks, I'd be all over that. Yeh, yeh, yeah, I know about inflation, but man it still sounds cheap.
I wonder what Curtis means about production painted bodies?...
I always wondered why there was a wheel base option on rc10s but the nose plate only had the one set of holes taped for use. Then to my surprise I noticed that my early edition which I am rebuilding had them tapped ready to go. There really is quite...

I know this is an old post, but I’m new on the forum. I’ll have to check that as I have an early no-stamp and just recently restored a CE. Hmmm.
I managed to save the plastic packs that my old Trinity 1400 SCR Pushed cells came in because the charging and discharging info was on the back of the labels.
I also have the boxes, all paperwork and receipts from three Novak 410-M5...
