take a good photo of the label... it looks like the ultra series from the first photo you took.
those used the yokomo cans like you have a photo of.

is there a Remanent of a colored dot on the can?

agree with the damage on the armature there was a endbell failure of somekind usually impact really messes up the end bell.

The label is really faded. I don't see any evidence of a dot, and I don't see any residue evidence that it even had a secondary label...

Kinda what I was figuring on the motor. Just though there was maybe some way to tell that I just didn't know about. Oh, well. Guess I'll swap the nice bell with one from one of my nicer motors. I haven't tried to run this one yet, so don't know if it's shot. Thanks for the advice.

comm looked fine, so as long as the shaft isn't bent, it will probably run just fine. I was going to say it's probably a decently strong motor, unless the magnets are shot.

Yes, it's really in pretty decent shape inside, much more than the label would indicate. The comm looks better than in the pic, very little wear. Except for the dings at the end of the armature, it looks good.

This is what I got at 0 degrees, 7.2 volts

I didn't intend that rpm value to be a tell-all indication of the health of the motor, just that it isn't dead - spins up freely, no screeching, etc. I'm certainly not an expert, my RC experience through the years has basically been yard, street, parking lot, baseball diamond dirt, etc...not organized races where everyone is expected to know every little detail. I realize many things will have a effect on the performance - truing the com, new brushes, type of brushes, bearings vs bushings...I was not aware of most of the magnet specifics, thanks for that.

We're good. I wasn't trying to be a whiny putz either. My ways are unconventional - I know that - because I don't have the "on the job" experience that a lot of you do, with your history as racers. I've got lots of enthusiasm to learn more though... I just sound like a dumbass sometimes while I do it...
:D

Where the wires are soldered to the comm...I think there's enough space to get my micrometer on one without taking anything apart. Maybe at least see what that is.
