Go for it. I started with an inexpensive tabletop mill & lathe from Grizzly to make some car parts. I think Harbor Freight carries the same stuff under a different brand. For all the stuff I've made over the years more than paid for the tools vs farming it out.

Cool buggy for sure. I sold one of my custom buggies so someone else could enjoy it... like you, the fun part is building them, playing with them and then moving on to the next build. There's no point in having a runner sit on a shelf, unless you have some personal attachment to it.
