Racing Tamiya Rough Rider with 4wd conversion.

Post by Dr. Robotnik »

Ah, adding cars to RC10talk, what are lunch breaks for?

Well this is another project which I have had in a shoe box for over a year and just decided to build the other day to find out what is still missing. It is made of parts I have accumulated while trying to build my other modified SRB's, this was going to be a runner but I am unsure now.

This is a highly modified Rough Rider which would have been a serious racing contender back in the day before the nasty old RC10 hit the scene. The only stock parts left on this are the wheel backs and inner pieces and shocks everything else I have upgraded with either NIB or used parts.

New parts:

CRP/RCH chassis (how do you tell they were the same?)
CRP Kyosho Scorpion universals
CRP wide front end
CRP front arm pins
CRP coil over kit
CRP battery straps
CRP heavy duty rod ends
MIP rear tranny support
MIP top shaft
MIP idler gear
MIP ball diff.
MIP IRS 200 trailing arm mount
MIP 4wd front hubs
Thorp/Dirt Burners ball cups
The Hot Trick Stuff brackets
Proline front tires
Tamiya Super Champ servo saver
Tamiya SRB spur gear
Tamiya SRB pinion gear
Sealed bearings

Used parts:

RCH shock towers (inexplicably cut?)
RCH front arms
RCH bumper
MRP/Bolink/Proline body
MIP rear transmission casing
MIP chain gears
MIP 4wd kit axles
MIP 4wd front wheel hubs
Team Checkpoint Platinum red label motor
Proline Champion rear tires
Thorp/Dirt Burners aaloy wheel covers
CRP rear roll cage
Tamiya SRB shocks (duals shocks in rear)
Tamiya Rough Rider front and rear wheel inners and backs

Once I'd assembled the car it became apparent the 4wd kit won't work with the Super Champ servo saver so I'll have to use a CRP servo mount I have. I am also not sure whether to fit the MIP 4wd kit at all as it has the later black front gearbox. Any opinions?

Cheers

Ed

funky!

How's the 4wd working? is it the same as on shodogs avatar car?
Those axles running to the front wheels (if they even are axles) look so flimsy.

The 4wd drive on this will be a chain drive though I might make it cable drive I am not sure yet, decisions decisions...

The axles in the steering hubs are decent solid steel construction but I think you are referring to the universals which are a super flimsy wire with a rediculous amount of play!

I'll finish this soon I promise
