Did they use 3-pin Molex computer connectors back in the day? I'd use bullet connectors so reversing motor direction would be a snap. Not sure if that's period-correct, though. I know Tamiya did that decades ago.

The three pin Amps connector was for the battery, and because of how its wired you could use a 4 or 6 cell pack and the placement of the diodes would drop the voltage (this is pre-bec). Same as the connector on the RC10 except it dropped from a 6 and 7 cell. The motor connector was a 2 pin Amps and never needed to be reversed

Could you hard wire the motor to the speed control to delete 2 plugs for a tidier wiring setup?

I thought about it and I'm still undecided about what to do. My initial thought was to leave it as original as possible, then I'm also inclined to make it really tidy and remove as much connectors as possible. The wiring set up has already been altered here to get rid of the switch. BEC is directly connected to the receiver. At the same time the previous owner added an extra connector probably because he was lazy and wanted to connect easily his batteries with Tamiya connectors. Going back to the original set up would be difficult as several cables have been cut. Oh well decisions I just want it to be functional probably.

How are the pins removed is there a trick?

Usually with those types of connectors, the pins have metal tabs that act like barbs; the pins are pushed into the connectors until the barbs pop out, preventing the pins from pulling back out. You can probably release the pins from the connector by pressing in the barbs with a tiny jeweler's flat screwdriver tip or X-Acto knife blade while carefully pulling on the wire from the rear of the connector.

Sorry replied in a rush without noticing.

I could easily remove the motor connector and get rid of the connector that connects the three plug connector to the Tamiya two plug one used to connect the battery. That would also get rid of the BEC bypass that is now on that Tamiya connector. The only thing I'm not sure is if I can simply get rid of that too without compromising potential functionality (I will most probably never drive this car). Any ideas?

Looking at the diagram the only connector not correct is the Tamiya connector.

Yup I have the manual and carefully studied it. I could potentially only keep the battery connector but I'm not sure about getting rid of the BEC bypass that was supposed to come out of the 3 plug connector and is now connected to that bloody Tamiya plug. Question is will it actually work without it?

In answer to your last question, No

Just get rid of the Tamiya connector but keep the other 2 as per wiring diagram.

Figure 33, pins 1 & 3 on the 3 pin Amp connector, the two wires (red & black) they are labeled ( to

radio switch ) but should go to the BATT port on the receiver, ( power for receiver and servos)

The receiver won't take the full voltage without blowing. Newer bec receivers will, but not that one
