Turnbuckle question

Post by Jim85IROC »

I'm seeing 3 different types of turnbuckles for the 10T under the 7253 part number.

On the 7001s that I bought, most of the turnbuckles seem to have the hex-shaped adjuster section in the center of the turnbuckles. The vast majority of the replacement turnbuckles have a square-shaped center section, most of those having a notch on one end to identify the direction of the threads.

Am I correct in assuming that the hex shaped style is the oldest, with the square shaped without the notch being the middle, and the square shaped with the notch being the newest? If so, does anybody know when the changes occurred?

I'm almost done collecting a set of the square without notches, and now realizing that they probably aren't correct for the 7001 that I'm building.

Hex would be correct for all 10T's, your order of turnbuckles is correct. The square type wouldn't have shown up till about late 95, but starting in 96.

Parts are upgraded, numbers tend to stay the same. If you want correct turnbuckles, your best bet is E-bay. Look for older header card stuff. White, or USA flagged headers are your best bet, (although the flagged type may have a mix)!
a good front start, with bonus white parts

yeah, I have a bunch of the turnbuckles in the flagged bags, and so far it's 3 sets with the notches, 2 without. None with the hex tho. I've not been lucky enough to find the hex-style turnbuckles new on Ebay yet, though I'm looking at a good used set.

I may have to rethink my plans and instead come up with a good way to restore the originals back to that black-oxide type coating.

I hope so, because I just bought a set of them on Ebay. They look like what came on my 7001, but not everything on that truck was original.

Thank you Marlon,

I have two more NIP in a bell crank kit.

I was so impressed with Rods prototype RC10ST build, I want to build my own :!:

I plan to get all 6 plated to look like the ST.

Dave :)
