Twin Detonator's rides

Post by Twin Detonator »

Here are few pics of me and my 5 yo boy's rides.

My boys first R/C cars at 4 years old... Ignore the goofy smile....

I no longer have the Redcat Ground Pounder.

Here are our new rides that we go bashing with.
Tamiya Twin Detonator, Tamiya Blackfoot Extreme.

Both have full ball bearings, oil shocks, and aluminum A arms from RC Damper on eBay.
Mine has 2 Tamyia sport tuned black can motors and a Tamiya dual motor ESC.

A pic of all three.

The AE B4.1 is an all stock brushed car.

For being only 5 years old the boy does a great job at driving his BFX, he is fearless and takes on driving challenges and obstacles like a pro. One time when he ran out of his 2nd pack and I gave him one of my 3200 NIMH packs, he has 1800 and 2000 NIMH packs, so when he hit the trigger for the first time the truck was all over the place because of the new power it had. He quickly got her under control and now he wants to use my "faster" batteries. The kid is such a speed junkie!! Come spring I'll get him some bigger batteries.
He has driven his BFX so hard I had to update the arms and shocks because he broke the shocks. I also ended up nut and bolting most of the suspension because the screws kept coming out of the plastic.

Here are mine and my boy's Clodbusters.
They both have full ball bearings and mine has eMaxx shocks. We just have to get ESC's for them.

Mine is the orange one with vintage decals applied and his is a vision of a 5 yo little boy. He came up with that paint scheme himself although he didn't want the "freaky guy" on the side, so I had to loose him. :laugh

I got a new bashing body for my Clodbuster so I don't wreck my stock body.

I wish I took pics of this car before I fixed it up..
Back story...
This graphite team car sat in a local hobby shop display case in perfect condition for over 6 years that I have been going to it, until two months ago. I always drooled over this car and the perfect early gold pan sitting next to it, but the owner never wanted to sell them.

A few months ago a guy at the local indoor carpet track that we go to on Saturdays offered the owner of this shop $60 for the PERFECT graphite team car and the owner took it!!

Well I watched this fellow drive this car at the track for 6-7 weeks every Saturday night and he about utterly destroyed it in the B4 class because he can't drive too good.

There wasn't a single straight turnbuckle on it, ball cups in rough shape, the axles were bent, he drilled holes in the front for a bumper, he hit the front hard soooo many times it started to crack and delaminate the front end pretty bad thus needing the bumper, the tires now almost bald, destroyed the rear bulk head, the body and wing were destroyed, battery box cut and hacked for Lipo's, scratched up the rear end gold part, and a few other small things..

One Saturday night I went to the track and he was driving a new Traxxis Bandit buggy in the B4 class and he had this poor graphite team car sitting on the table in a heap for $40.
I couldn't get my wallet out of my pocket fast enough, I was glad I had the $$$ on me to get it.

Here is the car after I threw in about $65 in new parts and such at it and put a little time in it to rescue it. It will now be a shelf queen,I tried saving the front end the best I could, but I don't think it will take more thrashing, so it will have to be retired.

Here is my WC, it has some vintage 3 pc. wheels, steering arms, spindles, green springs, vintage WC instruction mounted front body mount, and vintage electronics. I have to get a motor for it still and do up the body.
