Need WOIN setup advice

Post by pumpkinfish »

I finally finished my WOIN racer and raced it this past weekend. I was 3rd overall until an e-clip came out on the warm up lap in the a-main. By time I got back to the pits, fixed it and back on track, main was half over, lol!

Anyway the only problem I had with the setup was on 90degree turns. It wanted to keep on rotating. The 180's the car was great, but once I got to a 90 turn, I had to tip toe through them and let off the throttle a lot. Anyone have any ideas? I have pictures of the buggy as it sat race day. We race on a clay track that starts damp and dries out as the day goes on. I am running JConcepts Gold Bar Codes front and rear and have 30wt front shocks and 25wt rear shocks.

I also noted the left front arm is sticking a little and I think it is from the JConcepts ball cups. I am not happy with how tight they are. What ballcups do you guys run?

Edited to add that those duratrax front wheels suck! Both are cracked and now I need to find a way to get the tires off without ruining them to put on new wheels. Is baking the best option?

I'm trying soaking the tires/wheels in acetone to remove them from the rim. I've heard good things about doing it that way.

Will acetone change the compound of the tire? Like will it mess with what makes the gold barcodes "gold"? Will they get softer or harder?

Anyone have any ideas on the turning?

I had mentioned the poor quality of those Duratrash wheels before and was attacked by a well known member of this forum. He said it was untrue and that "real racers" have never verified that issue. He's still wrong. They suck!

Scr8p is correct. Custom Works rear hubs and custom works spacers with MIP cvds.

Acetone works a treat mate.. The rims do crack often IMO but i have only cracked the rears.. Heads up the acetone basically melts the duratrax wheels but has no permanent effect on the tyres... On the setup side i had similar problems and I added some negative camber on rear and shortened the link a bit with the long wheelbase setting, made it better but if you struggle for power down on straight sections like i was I softened the rear a bit.. Last thing to try is the rear toe... I have a real nightmare track to setup for its small, bumpy, has old astro turf that has clay dust embedded in it on the straight's and has hard packed clay in corners that dries as the day goes on but the straights are slippery until late in the day as the clay and astro itself dry,and on top of that it has big jumps... Good luck mate
PS i am probably wrong with most of these things. I have not tried the jconcepts rod ends i use rpm on racing stuff...
