rims and tires for worlds car

Post by Alberta guy »

I'm in the process of tracking down parts for my rc10 worlds car rebuild. I can find pretty much everything I need to replace or have a spare of from tower hobbies with the worlds car re release. The only thing I cannot find is rims and tires. Searching through the forums depending on the post some say upgrading to wheels works and others say it doesn't. What do i do?

Worlds car were 1/4" axles, the ReRe is a 3/16 conversion using late model wheels. They won't help you unless your going the runner route, then by all means convert to 3/16 cvd's and late wheels
It's time to stand up to the bully. Support the companies that support the industry, not the ones that tear it down. Say no to Traxxas

is it possible to just drill out the rims to 1/4"? They way things are going so far I'm ready to just buy something brand new and toss these in the garbage.

Possible probably, but certainly not an easy solution an it won't be durable either. On top the 1/4 axles have a bump where the 3/16 are straight all the way. If it's runner do a conversion, if for the shelf find proper vintage wheels.

I have used a counter sink to allow the 1/4 " axles to sit into a 3/16 " rim. You want a small one, with a 1/4" OD.

You'll need to enlarge the pin slot in the rim with a dremel ball engraving bit.

Next, when you mount up you'll see the threaded 1'4 " axle is smaller than the 3/16 ", so take a piece of wing tube and drill it out to slip over the axle threads, trim it to fit the remaining straight bore in the rim (this needs to be precise; the axle nut will press it onto the axle if it's too long) , and you should be good.

Having done this in the past, I think I'd opt for a properly fitting rim/axle combo if at all possible!
