Rear Bulk Head Ball Placment

Post by myfordcnc »

On the pre-worlds car bulk heads we have a number of locations for tie rods. With some additional inboard ones (at least on the Andy's one). what is the logic behind these different placements?. If this has been answered before could some on give me a link to that info. I suppose this question also extends to the front shock tower and front a arm locations. i'm not a racer so that probably explains my confusion. but i would like to know.

That affects roll center. Everyone always uses the ones under the wing tubes.

But on a worlds car they used holes between the wing tube holes and the old inner row

So would the logical extreme be to have them on the center line of the chassis? Or, I should ask, what is the benefit of minimizing "roll center". What and how does this effect stability around corners at high speed? to some degree the length and drive shafts must confine that ideal? I mean if one was starting from scratch what would be the theoretical ideal be? i suppose you want all the weight and dynamic weight as close to the center as possible. But with that you get a ball. no?

Roll centers are the most misunderstood aspect of tuning. Have fun.

Roll center...I could just refer ya to xxx man's setup book. But didn't one of the mags cover in depth buggy setup?
