Weird RC10 stories

Post by MelvinsArmy »

Have any weird RC10 stories?

I've got one. In NYC there are people, some homeless, some not, who set up blankets on the curb on the sidewalk and sell various junk. Sometimes it's bootleg DVD's of movies that just came out in theaters, shoes, clothes, CD's, books, cheap toys, incense, hats, gloves, socks, new, used, whatever. Anyway, on the way home from my old job there was this guy who I assume was homeless who was always selling junk. I'm guessing it was stuff he picked out of the garbage, cause that's what most of it looked like. But, in NYC you'd be suprised what stuff people just throw away, so there was sometimes some decent stuff. Anyway, one day he had a gold tub RC10 and the rear end of a Hornet or some other Tamiya and 3 aluminum wheels. I couldn't believe it. The RC10 looked like it had been living in someones dingy basement for 10 years, it had roach crap on it, and it was pretty nasty looking. I asked how much for the car, the wheels and the rear end of whatever that was. He wanted $100. I said that was way too much. I got him talked down to $40 for the lot. Seemed like a decent deal because the RC10 was complete, along with reciever, servo and ESC and motor. So I took it home, along with the rest. Took about 3 hours to clean it off and disinfect  but under all the dirt it was a pretty decent car. The wheels were Duratrax and were mint. Missing one front. I threw the Tamiya rear end away, didn't know what to do with it. Anyway, I didn't hold on to it long, something came up and I needed the money so I ebayed the oldy goldy. But, it was a fun experience. Resurecting a homeless abandoned RC10.

I was definately not a $200 car. Like I said, $100 was too expensive for it. Had you seen it, you probably wouldn't have touched it. It had roach crap on it. Like all street/flea market finds, you never pay what they ask. I know he didn't pay for the thing, let alone know what it was.
