TQ10 wide front suspension arm upgrade

Post by Circa1992 »

I am looking to upgrade my TQ10's front suspension arms to the wide version (part 6206). Are there any additional steps, past mounting the new arms, that will need to be taken to accomplish this? I did just purchase the Team Associated turnbuckle kit, will I need longer turnbuckles to accommodate the longer arms?

Also, what is the difference between the Front Shock Tower (part 6230) and the Front Shock Strut (part 6231)? Is it just the ability to change the suspension geometry?

I am basing my part number information from this site http://www.teamassociated.com/cars_and_trucks/RC10_Classic/RC10_Classic_Kit/parts_accessories/

Thanks, everybody!

if you are talking about this turnbuckle kit ( http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LX2540&P=SM ), it's not all of it gonna work for you unless you have the newer style tower (6231). it has camber holes more inboard that are used in conjuction with a pair of those rods in that kit (with the wide front arms). the steering and centerlink turnbuckles will work though.

also, if you have the short arms, it most likely has offset knuckles and axles. they'll work, but inline knuckles and axles are what should be used.

and as a heads up, if you don't atleast have the second series rear bulkhead with a camber hole under the short wing tubes, you won't be able to use the turnbuckles from that kit on the rear.

Thank you for the information! I believe that IS the kit that I bought from Tower. http://i.imgur.com/w8S4wbK.jpg

Here are photos of my front and rear suspension bulkheads. It looks like I have the older front tower (6230):

So, if I'm reading your response correctly, the wider front A arms should work with the turnbuckles I just purchased, however, I will need to upgrade to the 6231 front bulkhead to do that. As for the new turnbuckles working on the rear, however, I will need a ruling on that.

with the turnbuckles in that kit, i don't see you being able to make them short enough using the tower you have. i would just grab a 6231 tower, they're cheap enough. or you could always drill 2 new holes in your original tower more inboard to match the holes in the 6231 tower.

the turnbuckles in the kit will not work with that rear bulkhead. they're too long and you can't make them short enough because they aren't threaded all the way up to the nut.

i use these dubro turnbuckles a lot. i can cut them to any length i want.
