Starting a new project - sort of

I was bored and decided to dig out one of two unrestored RC10's that I would eventually get to (the worst one). I didn't really want to spend any money on this project as I'd rather finish off a few stadium trucks of mine. I knew I had enough parts to finish this one, so I started to clean it. It was pretty rough, the chassis was bent and covered in old duct tape and double sided tape, not to mention a thick layer of dust.

So I remove the tape residue, straighten the chassis, clean the nylon and start cleaning the metal parts. It turns out this car is actually in pretty good shape. It must have had low use as the bearings in it are still like new. It's nowhere near perfect but will still make a nice display piece. It looks to be an early cadillac car.

So now I dont know what to do with it. I was going to give it wide arms and some other pieces that I have some extras of but think it will be a shame to change it. Should I just restore it as it sits with later parts or spend a few $ on it to keep it original?

For what it's worth here is the other unrestored RC10. I was originally going to strip both cars and use the best parts to make one car with the remainder going to the 2nd car. It too seems to be an unmolested cadillac car so I guess swapping parts wont matter.

I started putting it together to see where it went, and so far it's better then expected. Once you start it's hard to stop, but it's finally time to call it quits and head to bed. There are a few parts that I need - turnbuckles, rear rims, front/rear tires and a gear cover. I might just use 4-40 threaded rod for the turnbuckles but dont like how soft it is.

You'll break 4-40 zinc allthread just looking at it wrong.

Correct turnbuckles are readily available on eBay and elsewhere. I actually grabbed a set of Losi stainless turnbuckles for my recent nitro gold pan conversion. They're metric, but nice looking, and a little huskier than stock at 3mm. They work with AE rod ends, just thread in a little harder.

The part number on that Losi set was LOSB1893:



It'll do tie rods and all four camber links on a narrow track RC10buggy.

Thanks for the tip on the turnbuckles but I want to keep it more original. I ended up using 4-40 all thread, it'll work fine for a shelfer.

The shocks were terrible but have cleaned up well. The shock oil was red like trans fluid. I robbed the tires and wheels off a different car but think they suit this one better, so the search is on for another set.

All in all I think it turned out great.

Looks good! Threaded 4-40 rod is spot on for the original look. Good for runners too as it bends on impact and is less likely to pop links off the ball stud

Thanks guys, I'm pretty happy with it. It looked like it should have been in the bin when I started but now it will be put on my shelf next to the others. Not much left to do to it other then maybe replace one of the battery cups and find a small wing for it.

I guess it's time to start on the other one now.
