Re: You are only allowed 4 rc cars! Decide which :D
Hmm, I'm too sentimental to go with anything else
Tamiya Frog
Optima Mid SE
JRX2
XX-T
The first car I really remember was the Tamiya Frog. I had seen others but I didnt know what they were. It was probably '86 when a cousin of mine came down to our place to visit. He brought a Frog with him that had a few hop ups and the thing was a rocket. Out drives stripped on the first or second run so I only got to stare at it the next week but it left a lasting impression. About a year later, a couple guys were running a pair in a dirt lot near our house that just amazed me (would have been 11 or 12 years old at the time).
Shortly after, I found a magazine at the local grocery store and saw a picture of the Optima Mid SE and was just in awe of how awesome it looked. Around the same time i saw some kids running some cars out in the street that just looked amazing. The biggest thing that stuck out to me on the car was the clear gear cover. I dont know why but I thought it was awesome. The body was off the car and the whole thing was just amazingly clean and simple looking. It was a JRX2 and it was the car that I decided I must have! Ended up receiving a used JRX2 from then team driver Dennis Taylor on my 14th birthday, January of '89.
I attempted to race the JRX2 once down at Outlaw Hobbies in Highland CA but got stage fright and pulled out (may have broke something in practice too). The first vehicle I actually finished a race with was the Jr T and I ran that car for at least 6 months over at the Ranch Pit Shop in the novice and subsequently sportsman class after winning 3 out of 4 of my races. I ran sportsman until the XX-T was finally released. I think I was 9th on the waiting list at the Ranch for a XX-T and when they arrived, I built it that weekend and went straight to expert stock with it. I did great with that vehicle! Probably still my favorite body style of any stadium truck and I'd love to get another one.
Sorry about the lack of RC10s on the list but I was a JRX2 lover and Associated was the sworn enemy LOL. Since I've learned to appreciate them and built a pretty nice one to accompany a JRX Pro (essentially what my JRX2 actually was) and a Turbo Ultima (had to have the Big 3s 2wd buggies). It took me another 20+ years to get the Mid SE but I got one!
