Comm Sticks

Post by ca-rj »

I've been searching for comm sticks on Goggle, Ebay, Tower Hobbies and AMain and can't find anything. Does anyone know where I can get one?

Thanks!

1991?

 I haven't seen one in a while. Probably have to wait for a used one to come on eBay. Slot car industry may still use them, may be worth a trip to the local slot car track if you have one

Is he talking about the abrasive eraser-like thingie that's shaped like a brush and you put in the brush slot, or the glass fiber stick (which I can't stand as I always seem to get glass fiber splinters in my fingertips)???

Actually... comm sticks were the poor man's comm lathes... now that lathes are like $30, might as well pick the real thing

I found those Tamiya cleaning brushes last night, but was hoping that the sticks that you stuck in the brush hood still existed.

I use pencil erasers to polish the comm between rebuilds.

Get one of those large rectangular erasers that is half pink / half white.
((Usually found in the "school supplies" section,
or you may have to go to an art supply store.))

Use a razor blade to cut sections that fit snugly into the brush hoods,
attached a pinion gear and turn the armature while pressing the eraser firmly against the commutator.

Use a pink section first, to remove large particles,
follow with a more firm white section to give a final polish.
Then spray liberally with motor spray.

((The white side is a bit more firm - intended for erasable ink,
the pink side is softer for erasing pencil.))
