YR-4M2 No.2

Post by LTO_Dave »

I just picked up this YR-4M2 from another forum for a really good deal. It included the box, manual, NIP Protoform Dodge Stratus 2.1 body, Airtronics 94157 servo and a few sets of wheels & tires. I really wanted the box, so I'm happy it was in good shape. The chassis has a few minor scratches, but nothing some protective film won't cover.

The car was in nice shape and just needed a good cleaning. I rebuilt the diffs and shocks, cleaned up & clearcoated the motor mount, and used phillips head screws since someone thought it would be neat to replace them all with button head allen screws. I also put on a set of new BSR foams that were included in the deal.

I'm not sure on the electronics I'll be using since this will be a runner in order to keep my other one on the shelf. But for now I put in a nice Orion V-Max 2000 saddle pack I got from a great member on here. I'll probably go brushless, LiPo and 2.4GHz when I make it into a drifter/racer next year.

I got these parts a few months ago and finally took some teaser pics. I picked up the Hammad Ghuman Monza alloy wheels for a great deal on ebay. And the Penguin QuadSlot battery plates came from Penguin after being screwed on shipping and poor packaging.

Those wheels should look killer! Do you know whether or not the Ofna Z10 was somewhat of a knockoff of that Yokomo car? They share alot of similar looking parts.

That looks to be in very nice condition. Almost too nice to run. I have one of these also that i got in a craigslist rc lot. Don't know too much about it but my love of yokomo cars makes me keep it

Nice pair of M2's! Bring's back memories.. I bought my M2 at Ultimate hobbies, back in the 90's, then bought the m2 pro! Wish I would have kept my stuff.

I finally bolted on the Penguin 4+2 plates and reconfigured my cells. And I have to say that they fit like absolute crap. I had to sand and dremel every part to make them fit good enough for display. I thought maybe it was because of the 2000 cells, but my 1400's without any heat shrink still didn't fit. :x

I decided to change directions with this car, so I built a grip racer to bomb around parking lots. I was going to build a rally racer, then a drifter, but decided on this snce I had the parts.

I used a Castle SV2 esc and 4-pole motor leftover from an Axial, and the Losi 2.4GHZ receiver and Hitec servo were taken from my old Tamiya crawler. I made a lexan belt shield to keep the esc wires away from the front belt.

I attached the TrakPower lipo's to the Yokomo battery trays with servo tape, then used Pure-Tech straps to hold them to the trays. I put a washer on the screws between the trays and chassis to keep the trays from pinching the straps.

I topped it off with a 190mm HPI Mitsubishi Eclipse body that I've had for years. I need to hit up my LHS next weekend to get some silver paint, then add the decals. I have some beat-up Yokomo wheels with rubber tires that I'll use until they wear out completely. :D

Here's the finished product after using Tamiya Bright Silver paint and adding the included decals.
