RC12E, is it or isn't it?

Is this an rc12E, or just a clone?
I kinda like the look of the body too: any ideas what it is?
I'm considering to buy this. Do current wheels and spurs still fit, or should I upgrade to another rear axle for that?

Super early servo saver, its a 12e and looks like its in pretty awesome shape

Modern spurs will fit (it should be solid no diff and uses rc10 stealth hole pattern). Wheels will be standard 2 bolt which is outdated but some wheels are made to fit 2 or 3 hole hubs.

Pontiac Firebird for the body?

I suppose upgrading the rear axle to include a diff and use modern wheels will be easy. But how much would that cost me? (wheels and foams not included)

I'm on a limp on wheither to go cheap and get this or go a little richer and get a kyosho axis which shares parts with my plazma

You could buy a complete 1/12 modern diff and drop it right in.

I want that servo saver if you buy it and need a diff I would trade you a complete 12L4 axle for the servo saver. You can use a regular old rc10 servo saver in place but I like that first generation one no tires or wheels with the diff but uses modern 3 bolt wheels and the same 1/4" bearings as the 12e.

Sorry not sure about the body. Looks like firebird because of the shaker hood scoop but not my specialty

That 1st gen servo saver is no longer a servo "saver"... Looks like it's locked down pretty good. Still nice to see. The Transcamarobird body is a Parma.

Damn I just noticed that. I was thinking the spring was missing but never thought about the bolt holding it together. Might be a good pattern At least though.

Actually I tried buying the axis in the last minute, but just then my internet connection got slow and the auction ended before my bid was in

that only gets him to the same 2 bolt pattern he has, nothing modern will fit. Aim for the newer 3 bolt if you want easy access to tires

Well, I bought it. So here are some more pics (from the seller till I receive it).

Not sure what I will do with it exactly yet. It probably will end up in the drawers for the time being; let's see what it looks like in the flesh and how my current 1/12 holds up now it's on the track.







I thought the upperdeck and servo saver were hand-made copies of the original. But it seems this was the finishing quality of those first models

You had to trim the servo holes yourself, but yeah.....they were kinda rough
