Most annoying sound ever
Hello to all, started to work on my runner, for some spring fun, freshen everything up. When I work on my cars I tend to keep the chassis on my lap,( even though I have a work bench ) as I do the tear down. Tool in hand, other hand supporting the car, when an E-clip fly's out of my hand. I hear that annoying "pling" sound. Don't know why, but I just cant leave that clip on the floor, it drive's me nut's. I need to know where it went! Putting my tools on the bench, placing the car on the bench, I go on my hand's and knee's looking for it. Get all set again, remove another hinge pin, "Pling"...........Could there be a worse sound.

Lack of sound! Like when your work space is carpeted and you can't hear where it landed!

Re: Most annoying sound ever
Here's what I've learned about removing e-clips, because they ALWAYS shoot off to a distance that's physically impossible; I use a magnetic screwdriver and a small flat-blade bit. When you carefully pry out the e-clip, it stays stuck to the bit.

Re: Most annoying sound ever
As a kid I had a carpeted room - I spent countless hours on my hands & knees... It was much harder to come by parts back then (no money, no internet shopping, etc.), so an e-clip was Gold to me!
(((or maybe, "an e-clip was like a barrel of crude oil..."
given the recent volatility in value of gold)))

Re: Most annoying sound ever
My bench is next to our sump pump, so I am always worried about parts flying around.
I do all my small work on a metal tray, that way if parts fall down they will stay contained, but that does not always work..

I pluck the old eclips off and belt out an evil laugh as they go bouncing to the floor. I know my roomba gets pissed at me but I enjoy it and install fresh ones anyway

Good idea, but certainly doesn't work for e-clips, because e-clips never just fall down. They shoot off as if fired from a gun!soniccj5 wrote:I do all my small work on a metal tray, that way if parts fall down they will stay contained, but that does not always work..

Re: Most annoying sound ever
I just get extras, if they fly, they get replaced.
the most annoying sound ever (to me) is the 'crack' when assembling complex parts. yep, snapped something and now it's shot. it's worse if it's something that shouldn't break, vs twisting, flexing or bending something to get it to fit and THEN it breaks.
