Is this a B3 worlds car?

Post by artfull dodger »

This is my wife's buggy, was represented to us as a Duratraxx Evader. BUT, when she broke the rear shock tower in a rollover, nothing in the Duratraxx line matched the rear shock tower. So today I am at Hobbytown and spotted the exact match in the Associated parts isle. Package says its for a B3 worlds car. The more I looked at other parts the more it made sense. The decal on the wing could have come from anywhere. The motor as purchased is a Reedy, Airtronics radio gear, LRP ESC. Where as the other brand came with its own brand radio and ESC. The car is wicked fast, which I would expect of that type of car. Most of the suspension arms are RPM, as is the rear motor guard cover, gear dust cover. The front suspension tower is carbon fiber I think. I cannot find any other branding on the chassis unless I dont know where to look. Here are a bunch of pics to assit with the "what is it" fun. Mike

Its a b3 team car. There was a rear tower released along with a body that was a bit different that was a 'worlds' kit.

well, the wing is correct also...it is a duratrax evader wing. Looks like a decent cheap replacement wing for a runner. Nice alloy rear bulkhead/brace on your buggy too. The b3 is also a pretty rugged runner. Takes alot to really hurt one.

The wing is doctored together. One side is held on with tape and glue. We are getting a new body and wing for it. I replaced the shock tower, the one on it was previously broke and epoxied together, thats why it snapped so easily when she flipped it after a jump. I JB welded it back again, and will keep it for an emergency spare. I replaced the rear rims with TA white rims, tires fit so much better now. Old rims were chewed up, drive pin slots chewed up from loose axle nuts and the new tires fit like crap. I also removed that offending Duratrax decal from the wing. Wish I could get the paint off the front rims and return them to white. new rims would take new tires, I didnt have much luck boiling off the rear tires, they ended up getting trashed getting them off the rims, unless I should have boiled them longer. I almost bought new front rims, but didnt. Im stoaked that is an Associated over that other brand! Mike

For future reference... To remove old tyres from original Associated rims (and most aftermarket ones) that are made from nylon, place them in a metal can/tin of Acetone... The Acetone will break down/dissolve the super glue commonly used to fix the tyres to the rims, and the tyres can easily be removed..

If the tyres are worn out, then cut them away from the rim so that you can put them in a smaller tin (i.e. use less Acetone), and you can also re-use the inserts if desired..

Just a word of warning.. Place only Nylon rims in Acetone.... Acetone will dissolve plastic rims (and lexan car bodies) and all you will have is a gooey mess in the botton of the tin..

Acetone may also dissolve the paint from painted rims/wheels as well..

Mark..

Acetone works great for tire removal and you don't need much at all. The fumes actually break down the ca quicker than if submersed. if you put about a 1/4" in the bottom of a bucket with an airtight lid you can put the tires/rims above the fluid part on top of another rim for instance and let them sit. Wallah, next night they peel right off. Rims are safe and sometimes can reuse the tires also.

Mark makes a good point too. Even suspended above the fluid some rims will still dissolve into a gooey mess. Duratrax bx and nitro bx rims are notorious for it...
