Box art decals for Kyosho Optima
I am interested in reproducing an exact box art replica of the original Kyosho Optima. However the #5 is different along with a few other decals missing from the production sheet.
Has anyone tried printing out the box art design?

Re: Box art decals for Kyosho Optima
I think I have a decal sheet from Marwan that I haven't used. Is it different than the original sheet?

Re: Box art decals for Kyosho Optima
I've always been curious about why the Optima had a nicer looking number 5 on the box art but the decal set number 5 was different and didn't look anywhere near as good. I remember being disappointed about it when I built my first Optima back in '85, I thought I must've got a dud sticker set then saw that they were all the same. I wonder what the story is behind this.
I've used a Marwan decal set but had no original to compare it to.

I'll be another to suggest Marwan. He's a great guy and has helped me out with many parts for projects. I've got one of his Optima Mid decal sheets here next to me and it's flawless.

Re: Box art decals for Kyosho Optima
I am and always will be happy with all of Marwans decals but these are exact copies if the factory ones aren't they? What I am hoping for is to find someone that can recreate the 'box art' decals that differ from the factory sheet.

Re: Box art decals for Kyosho Optima
I can probably make them in an Illustrator file fairly easily.
I can also print on clear material, but not white.
Anyways, if you need help making the file, and have someone who can print, let me know.

Thank you. I am happy to paint the numbers inside prior to painting but would need a mask of some kind to create the number. Would this be something you could do?

Yeah that's no prob. Ai files are vector based and can be converted to whatever format you need for plotting.J.M. wrote:Thank you. I am happy to paint the numbers inside prior to painting but would need a mask of some kind to create the number. Would this be something you could do?
What else is missing other than the 5?

Re: Box art decals for Kyosho Optima
Hi Jeff. I remember there being a member here a while back who did all the art work and got it close to being right. He even posted me a copy of the decal he printed out but the ink rubbed off in places in the mail. He did say that the ink would not hold well. Now if only I can work out who that was....

Re: Box art decals for Kyosho Optima
Cool! Hopefully he can come through with the file. If it's vector based, you can use it to cut paint masks. That would rock!J.M. wrote:It was this nice fellow. Mugenbulldog.![]()
