TF-5 and Lazer ZX-5 Prototype pics
Found these while doing a Google image search for some KX-One option parts. They are from 2003.
The TF-5 proto is a single-belt design like the KX-One.
The Lazer proto uses a belt and Lazer ZX arms.

Why did they switch to shaft drive afterwards?
It makes me wonder if you can build a belt-drive Lazer ZX-5 by combining the TF-6 chassis and Lazer ZX-5 arms...

Similar projects have been done, and even some cars were/are produced; sharing the chassis between tourer and buggy versions. But in general the shorter wheelbase is not helping the buggy version.

Re: TF-5 and Lazer ZX-5 Prototype pics
Might be that shin didnt like the zxs that theyd spent years developing and it worked really well on clay but wasnt fantastic on high grip surfaces. Didnt like Shin when i met him. Pity as the zxs made a couple of world As. They used the zxs as a testbed for the zx5 as a few items from that ended up on the 5. I heard the gear rear gearbox on the proto car you pictured wasnt as sturdy as the tamiya so didnt have a long lifespan. Tamiya had the right idea, enclosed gears in a turned around 2wd gearbox with pulley for the belt. If only Kyosho thought it through properly like the zxs drive train they would have been onto a winner.
