TPS Nova / rc10-traxxas hybrid

Post by scr8p »

this is something you don't see very often, and that's one reason i wanted it. alex posted this in the "what is this" thread june of last year. we worked out a deal at that time, but i never completed it until last month. he would give me monthly reminders though. but anyway........

this is a team pit stop nova chassis. traxxas up front, associated in the back. it's also setup to use andy's parts like their rear trailing arm kit and steering rack. it's in pretty nice shape..... a little used up on the bottom, and a couple holes i want to fill back in, but not bad. i'm not exactly sure in the direction i want to go with it. i'm thinking of just building it up with some nice used stuff i have laying around, but we'll see.

here's an old ad for the chassis kit:

this is the only other one i remember ever seeing on this board. built by tulsa.

Very cool! Gotta love the mix of pieces

Off the top of my head I dont remember. Probably '91ish. I'd have to look back through rcca mags.

Interesting. So its basically an rc10 with a trx1 front suspension? Was the traxxas front end really any better?

Looks pretty cool. 8)

well, the traxxas arms are a little longer. but i think the main reason for the traxxas parts is so the front chassis brace has a place to attach. like a bullet front end.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the bullet, hawk, sledge, eagle, ls and ls2, ant trx3 share front bulkheads right? Will this receive a trx3/top tower and arms, or keep it period an use the bullet stuff? It's a neat piece.

i think the bulkheads are the same, but i've never studied them. it's something i'll look into when it comes time to chasing down parts.

I genuinely think TPS mixed AE and Traxxas parts so that they could sell it as their own car and not a conversion kit. In the old ads for the car the RC10 and Bullet were never mentioned as being needed to build the Nova.....it was the offroad, oval or truck kits that you bought to complete the kit.

Breaking it down, if you don't include the aftermarket parts made by Andy's and TPS, only the rear bulkhead, arm mounts, motor plate and probably the dogbones & stub axles were from AE and they were all included in the basic kit. Just as many parts came from Traxxas. :)

The shocks look like they were Trinity's and the shock towers look like they could have been cut from graphite by TPS.

Definitely a sweet car and I'd love to find one myself one day.

trx10, hawks/rads (except nitro), sledge, eagle cars.

the trx1and nitro hawk used a split bulk like the rc10. they were/are compatible with the above but not the other way around. the trx1 and nitro hawk are narow

the trx3 used a narrow version of what was on the srt and the current 2wd cars.

also you had long and narrow arms on the trx1 and trx3

awhile back, todd sent me a some different traxxas front ends to try out and see what direction i wanted to go on this. well, i have to send him something so i figure i might as well send his other stuff back too.

one thing i was up in the air about was what tower to use. i had a couple c.c. worlds repop protos that jeff had cut for me awhile back. so i went about altering one for the job. i think it's a keeper. :)

I was just looking through an RCCA with an ad for the oval TPS Nova truck, and I've never actually seen one without the body.

I posted this scan in another thread but no one had any other pics of it. I'd like to see some body-off shots.
