New built Optima...

Post by Jay Dub »

Just finished this Tuesday night. Run of the mill, ho hum new built Optima. Everything is new and original except for the body. I have been collecting NIP parts for several years now and finally got the last bits I needed. -Jeff

The body is a Kamtec repro, and tho the quality is fine the body is a little too small. The mounting points don't line up accurately, and therefore looks a little off in the front end. -Jeff

It would seem all repro's shrink down to a smaller size than the original. I think the only way to get a good repop is for someone to redo a bigger buck to form from. Either that or find Kyosho's original bucks.

Paint. I am thinking red, white and black box art. I may not paint it until I can find an original body though, as I have NIP original stickers, and would hate to waste them on a repro. -Jeff

So nice to see a fresh new one, thanks. That is another memory car for me. I won one at a regional in Illinois right when they came out. The GP people were there and fuming because Jones ran a prototype Ultima somthin. When the girl was shuffling the ticket box I saw the number in one corner so I reached in and won the SOB YEE HAW. The next week it looked like this.

Nice build there Jay Dub, looks awesome. Why not get a decal set from Marwan and paint this body in the black/red/white sceme and if you find an original body later on get it done in the original box art colour sceme with your original decals? Just a thought.
