My Ultima Basher

Post by Snake Plissken »

After my Ultima (http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2068) suffered a moderate damage during a bashing meeting with the usual gang, I decided to build a 'basher' Ultima for that sole purpose in order to keep my old 'racer' Ultima with its somewhat pricey hop ups for track action only. I already had enough spares that I got in part lots on ebay to build a rolling chassis so that wasn't a problem, but since I insisted on using the original Ultima body I had to be patient and wait for one to pop on ebay. Unfortunately nothing came up, but suddenly, while browsing the Time Tunnel models site I found out they can still order old Kyosho parts from Kyosho Europe, and fortunately enough they still had in stock the Ultima body and roll cage! It did took a while but I finally got it and managed to finish my "basher". It actually looks like a shelf queen at the moment with the new body and clean chassis but I don't believe in cars that just sit on the shelf! This baby will run and get hit and the scars will add her character and she'll look even nicer!! Wow, sorry, I got carried away...
I used the original, plastic, final pinion gear in the gearbox (didn't want to invest in the rare hardened type) so in order to protect it I used the optional pinion clutch set (got it really cheap -about $7). I installed front Carson tires and wheels and rear 5 spoke touring wheels with Tamiya XC tires to match the front. The result is below, looks really nice and I can't wait to start bashing it!

Awesome! I think it kinda looks like a tractor with the tires  , but I think looks are secondary to performance.

Love the tires, looks like something they'd actually run at Baja.
Where did you find 'em at?

glad you like them, I also think they add scale realism to the car. The fronts are from a Carson (a German company) set, but I couldn't fit the rears as the offset wasn't right so I fitted Tamiya XC tires instead.

rears are 2'' and fronts are either 2.1'' or 2.2''.
