Craigslist A-Stamp clean up, 6-gear mods

Post by flipwils11 »

Didn't need this but I offered the guy half of his asking price on craigslist and he accepted so here we are. Bottom has some scratches from bashing, but seems to be in pretty good shape and wasn't run much from what I could tell.

I've installed universals in the rear but I may put the dogbones back. Inside the 6 gear I installed Race Prep metal idler gears and the outdrive bearing modification.

Mostly the car has surface rust on fasteners and needed a good cleaning, plus the 6-gear had some rust issues.

Unfortunately as I was installing the Losi bb diff tube I couldn't get the gear off the old diff tube from rust, hence my request in the "wanted" section for a spare gear to use and finish this up. Once I receive the gear I need I'd like to finish this up and determine what to do for wheels and tires (see my other request in my wanted post, regarding white 3-piece CE wheels). I'm kind of curious how it would sound with the all metal 6 gear trans and 32 pitch teeth.

is the gear still stuck on the diff tube? apply some heat with a lighter or propane torch with the diff tube in a vise lightly, and gently twist the gear with some pliers. The heat should make it walk right off for you. If you are concerned with the bearing adapter, you could also use a decent soldering iron on the gear to heat it up in a more controlled fashion.

That's a good idea, too bad I already mutilated it trying to remove it.

I have always run any of my 6 gear cars with the metal idllers and the car is always pretty quiet for me even on a brushless setup. the metal idlers cause it to make a bit more of a "zing" noise while it drives, which is why the plastic idlers are quieter.
