Spare runner ultima "The Lizard"

Post by Mr. ED »

This one's not seen much track time yet 'cause its older brother 's been doing so well.
So it still really needs fine-tuning.
The rear shocks are from my academy wyvern lot. The fronts will get replaced too, but the wyvern ones are too long for this shock tower... I guess I could get another JRX-SE tower. But I really don't want to buy too much anymore for the moment.

I had to rob its moter for my runner last weekend, so a tactical picture from the rear:

The "tub" is made of chassis protector: I built this in preparation for a vintage race, and it had been pretty wet for several weeks. But at the race day the weather was good and I shouldn't have bothered. (Works perfect though.)

The sliding rack steering and low profile servo left just enough place for the AMB; even with this full length Li-Po

correct, lethal weapon2 from A&L for the ultima.
At first I had the basic version without slipper, then I got a slipper from a member here, and then I got the pressure bearing for the slipper direct from Darryl Lane... about 6 years ago.
I didn't invest in the cnc milled alloy moterplate: looks great but I like the stock black epoxy one too. Maybe it bends on a big impact, but at least it will return to flat ;)

The sliding rack is from custom works. I prefer the design of the other one they make, but I had this one laying around and I wanted to build this car using only parts I had already. The ballstuds are also closer together on this one.

The chassis is from JG, or duratrax: don't really remember which car I used which one for. The most important difference between the 2 is the kick-up angle. Lengthwise they both are very close to the normal ultima. I used the dremel to make it the same shape as the Tamiya body.
