It's all about how you prep the photo. This is shot on black glass, with a white background. I shot it with a Nikon D2Xs, with a nikkor 17-55 f2.8 lens. Light came from an alienbees strobe shot through a 3' giant softbox. Here is a shot of the setup... this one was shot with a black background though, instead of the white:

Thank you for the insight ..... I think I understand it lol! - its a bit more than my point & shoot Pentax can achieve, but I guess I can mock-up some form of backdrop similar to what you show with some strong backlighting to achieve better pictures than I get now
