So I got another awesome deal today, this time it's an RC10GT. It came complete with everything needed to run and a few extra parts still NIP. So are these gas trucks hard to maintain? I've never owned anything Nitro before. Also the pull start won't budge on it, any suggestions on that? I'm not sure if this thing will even run or not, it was bought as is and untested. But hey for $12.00, I sure wasn't going to pass it up.

The engine may just be gummed up. Pull the head and use some hot water to set the block in. Let it heat soak for a min and slowly add pressure to to pull start. Should free right up if that's the problem. You may find worse right away if you pull the head. Use some new nitro to flush the engine after its free. at least that's what I used to do
Thanks for that tip, I'll pull the head and see what it looks like in there, never really thought about it just being gummed up. I don't have any nitro fuel for it right now, anything else I can use to flush it out with? I can't image to much being wrong with this thing, it honestly looks like it's only been ran a few times max.

If you can just disassemble the whole motor and clean it thoroughly. But make sure to lube all the internals well after its clean before you reassemble it. I use after run oil to lube the parts after I rebuilt mine. Make sure there's no water hiding in bearings and whatnot too.
Well it sounds like I'm in for an adventure, since I've never had any experience with nitro engines before. The thing is I bought this truck to resale, as that's what I do for a living. But the more I look at this thing and as I admire what great condition it's in, I'm leaning towards keeping it. I already have a few vintage RC10's, a team car and a RC10T and honestly I have no room for any more RC cars. So it looks like I'm going to sell off the 10T and keep this nitro instead. I'm sure I'll be bugging ya'll soon for more info if things don't go as planned when I tear down the motor. Thank you for the suggestions thus far... Damon

Oh yeah, any suggestions on what kind of fuel to buy for this thing? I see many different types offered and I have no clue as how to go about choosing one of them.

That is the rtr model
The pull start was cr@p AE was exchanging
So many of those
And what sucked even more was that you had
To cut the chassis around the fly wheel
To get it in the starter box
Cell phone post mor later

my spelling not so good! but i can DRIVE the wheels off anything!
Speaking of that flywheel, should I be able to turn that by hand? I took the head off and it's spotless in there, but I was trying to get a grip on that flywheel and give the motor a spin and it ain't happening.

Looking at the face of the flywheel you should be able to turn it counter clockwise. Go ahead and pull the starter off there too it could just as easily be gummed up in the crank case. Try the hot water for a couple min though too.

Yeah, I can't make it budge in either direction. I'll pull the engine, it must be as you are saying and something is gummed up in there or worse. Is the pull starter self contained? It's not going to unravel on me is it? I don't want to spend 3 hours trying to figure out how it all came apart.

Take out the little screws holding the pull starter. Carefully pull it off making sure the center part comes off with the case. Once it's off just tape it together. Then the backplate comes off.
Well, Well, Well, look what I found down in the bottom of the motor, a pile of sludge. Didn't have to soak it in hot water, just cleaned all the goo out of it really well and sprayed it down with WD40 and it works good as new. Did have an issue with that pull starter though, it came unwound on me and I had to rewind it, but it works. Thanks for your help romulus22, I'll let you know if it starts when I pick up some fuel for it. Thanks again... Damon

those pull starters for the rtr were notorious for the one way going out when i had mine i had to send it in to AE 3 times for exchange shortly after
the release of the rtr it was changed to some other one dont remember it but it was all black
i just cut the chassis to get it to sit in the starter box
it was a pretty good truck for what it was
just dont run it lean
i think i was running 20% back in the day

Yeah, I got a good look at that pull starter after it unwound on me and it doesn't look like it's built very well, not made to take any abuse for sure. What about installing a roto start on it? seems like a more practical way to go if the pull start fails.

After waffling over the last week or so when this appeared on craigslist, I went and bought it today. The owner knew the market for them but didn't want to go the ebay route, so he was firm on price. I paid less than $200 for it at least, but it was...

Don't worry, the car will live on and be well taken care of, but first she has to sacrifice some parts I need.
Looks close to my rc10 graphite that I was asking about a while back but. Some diffrences like it don't have the graphite checker pattern and the plastic parts are red. It could be died red but I'm not sure

Sweet! Thanks it only shows blue but I am sure if I call I can get it in red. If I get the red hardware it will be a shelf queen
WOW this thing was everything I dreamed of when I dreamed about nitro rc cars back in the day. Other than the pull starter broke 4 times, and it being impossible to get going after I accidently found water, just wow. I was driving through grass with...

It's been such a hectic week, but I stopped by the hobby shop and grabbe a .12/.15 pull starter, btu the damn thing has a larxer hex than my original .15 pull starter. I was...
The track isn't ready yet so we hit a big empty field near the house for a little fun on a nice day.

Maybe next time I can do video.. I was busy having fun and only stopped to take pics when my battery was drained.. The kid had a little more juice to keep moving..
Both trucks are getting switched to 17.5 brushless and Lipo this week :)
My first post here. Great site. I picked up a new assembled CE that was put in a box and never used. It was assembled with bushings. I picked up the bearings for it and quickly found out that I lost my 035 allen wrench from years ago. I have tried...

That's an awesome story. The one thing I've always loved about our sport is that mainly it's made up of good people that are willing to help out. I agree with the above post, we need to see some pictures!
So I picked up this LXT. Looks in really good shape aside from a little rust. I may have overpaid a little but...

I got the truck and overall it is in great shape. I have already torn it down and stolen the parts I need to freshen up my LXT and Pro. So now its just a bag of parts.
I havent really decided what to do with it. I am thinking of turning it to a Pro...
