DIY: hinge pins

Post by saucisse »

Maybe this could interest some here so I thought it could be usefull to share my DIY custom hinge pins. I was tired off always having to search for the correct hinge pins for custom projects so came up with this idea of doing my own custom length hinge pins.

You'll need:

-Nails with the appropriate diameter (SS ones if possible)
-Dremel
-Dremel cut off wheel
-safety gears

Just measure the overall length that you need for your hinge, cut the nail to this lenght, mark with a pencil where you want the groove for the ''e'' clip...insert the nail in the Dremel and make shure it's secured in place. Turn the Dremel ''ON'' and using de cutting wheel apply pressure against the rotating nail, creating the ''e'' clip's groove. I do some grinding on the head of the nail to make a nice and flat head and voila !!

You can also use .125" piano wire in a pinch (or whatever diameter $.59 wire your application needs), too.

Great tip.
