Kyosho Javelin Acquisition (what to do)

Ok so i got this Javelin off ebay about a week ago, I had hoped it was in a little better shape then it was, The previous owner did a little creative cutting of the cage (Around the antenna mount and switch)

Im not sure what i want to do with the car yet, Its not really shelf worthy (depending on definition) but the car is in pretty good shape and id hate to beat the crap out of it lol

I cleaned it up a little, added some gold shocks, belt drive conversion and a new lower chain guide. If the car was in better shape i would have built it back with all original parts.

Anybody have cars they are just not sure what to do with ?

I would defenitely keep that one - To me this is a real piece of history, with it´s small stratches and minor modifications. I would keep it as it is - this is a race buggy that has seen the dirt.

William, that looks pretty nice to me! Considering what those cages go for on ebay, I'd say it's a nice one. In any case, most of the car is Optima anyway. I'd rebuild the whole thing with NIP then wait for a better cage, then ebay the old one. Second choice, send that thing in a Priority Mail box to my house!

iF it were me and I wanted something different I would powder coat all the aluminum either black or maybe white and then paint the cage oposite the chassis black or white that would look great either way

It’s rather common that previous owners have done some cutting on the cage.

I'd keep that Javelin if I were you and RUN it Running a Javelin, now THAT is a vintage RC lover's statement

My Javelin is in similar shape too.

Frame is cut around the antenna too. Mine has belt drive conversion, Option House Shocks and under skid plate.

I run it at times and i love it. Not a common runner & you get a lot of nice comments too!!!

Ok you guys have helped me make my mind up

I will turn this into a runner, Anybody know of a 2.2 wheel that would kinda resemble you javelin wheels? Would you guys run brushed or brushless? What turn would be good?

I will install an under skid plate to help protect the new lower chain guard lol

Actually the javelin cage came with a notch cut out for the antenna its about 1/8th in diameter and half way thru the frame kind of a poor design on kyosho's part why they didn't just move the antenna mount I don't understand.

Im not sure what size the tamiya wheels are, I have also been looking at these from JC Racing, They are 2.2, They dont have the slanted spokes but should still look cool.

What's wrong with running with the nice wheels/tires that you have? Marwan makes nice repros. now if you need extras. It is just such a period perfect runner. To me new electronics and even brushless keep the vintage look and it looks all vintage, but new tires always make it look like a vintage/modern hybrid. Just thoughts, great car!

I ran a 19t brushed motor with li po's.

More than enough for it. I do run a 13t brushless in my Ultima with no problems but the 4wd drivetrain of the Javelin should be fine with a hardned final pinion & belt conversion.

Those wheels look fine.

I go for a slightly more off set than the originals as it really helps it. The other good choice is the Ofna CRT.5 have a very good off set and are available from A Main.

I would run it with a set of Tamiya rims and tires. 84280 Avante lightweight wheel set.
This would make an era correct appearance. Perhaps dye them orange to mach the cage.
