My NIP Schumacher CAT (SWB)

Post by CNA75 »

All - thought I'd share some pics of what has kept me busy over the Xmas vacation. I'm on a Schumacher binge at the moment and this SWB build is with 99% nip parts - I had to recondition the used grey bumper and polish up the used front shock bodies, however, the rest is nip. To obtain as crisp a nip finish as possible, I polished every piece of metal on the car including every screw head, anti-roll bar, ball joint, etc. Each black plastic piece was polished with black shoe polish in order to give that deep black finish, which I think contrasts well against the polished aluminium parts/screws.

There are a number of pictures below - I have tried to provide a picture from every angle. However, in the first picture you will see that I am missing one essential nip part.....the body mould! If anyone reading this thread feels in their heart that they can help me out with this part, I'd really like to hear from them (please pm me). It is the only part I require to complete this nip build and would really be appreciated....

I hope you enjoy the pics. Comments most welcome. Thanks.

I don't know whether to cheer or cry.

Beautiful work. Glad it all went to a good home.

Wow! Now that is stunning! Even the tyres are gleaming - I think I can see your reflection in one of them!

How can someone look at that and claim that the old Cats were complicated?! 8)

I'm so sad that all mine went to some kid who would never have appreciated what he ended up with...!

Thanks, Doug. I must thank you for the transaction that we did! Much appreciated, although it was a shame you didn't have the body tray mould to go with the undertray mould  .

I am now on a CAT crusade and shall be embarking upon my XLS build shortly.

Thanks for the compliments. By comparison to some cars of the time, I think the CAT may have been a little complicated - certainly considerably more complicated than my Fox and Blackfoot, for example. However, I think mainly the difficulty in the build process is due to the poor instructions that came with the CAT SWB and XL (the XLS instructions are definilely clearer) - at times they really do leave you stranded. I had to refer to all three manuals when building this car just to make sure everything was fitted correctly and true to the original. It took a comparatively long time to build....

That car brings back lots of memories racing at the Thunderdome and my first discovery of Cherry 7-up! Jim Dieter and Don Jones would come out of the back room to put on a show with these new cars called Schumacher Cats. Run the wall!!!!

I love it!!!!!

Seriously, building a used SWB is hard enough. Building new mint is near impossible these days.

Thank you for sharing your build with us all.

Great job!
