Spring/Summer Runner Strike Complete
This is just kind of a silly time killer project, but I wanted something new to play with that I can just plug a pack in and beat on anytime. I was gonna do this truck as a VW Bug, but then had another thought.
I wanted it to have kind of a Mad Max kind of look.
Started with this. SC Truck shells always seem to look very cumbersome on the truck I think.
So I started by shaving off a bit of shell. I realize I went pretty far on those front wheel wells, but I wanted the entire curve gone so I had to go pretty deep.
Then I removed all decals and painted the outside to give it a completely flat black look.
I bought these decals over a year ago simply because they reminded me of a skateboard I had as a kid. No real use for them when I bought 'em.
The decals don't look as clean as I'd like because of the paint on the outside, but here's the final product.
I'll outfit with electronics today hopefully.

I think it gives it a more of a BAJA 1000 look without the fenders on it .Now for some alloy beadlocks and slightly taller tires be biotchn!!!!DON

Re: Spring/Summer Runner
I think I'm going to peel the decals off. I've been looking at it and they really get on my nerves. I think I'll just leave it flat black. I also think I'm going to leave the stock 12t 550 in it for now with my Mamba Max. The only brushless motor I have right now is the Castle 5700 and it's too much for my taste. Not to mention the undo wear it would cause. If I'm unhappy with the motor in it then I'll get a 3800-4000kv brushless for it. I spent 30 hrs in 3 days in the yard and I'm too tired to drag my electronics out of my so-called work space right now so I'll just think it over for a bit.

Actually, that should be "undue wear". I hate when I'm in a hurry and do that.klavy69 wrote:its in every post of yours isn't it?THEYTOOKMYTHUMB wrote: Not to mention the undo wear .

You're right though!
I like to ask my 6 yr old daughter:
"What is that under there?"
To which she replies "Under where?"
"You said underwear!"
Then we both get a good laugh.

I think it would look better without...er....stickers, too. The glossiness of the....stickers...stands out too much from the flat black paint.

Re: Spring/Summer Runner
I had suspected this thread to be the final straw or just strange coincidence. I never really liked the theme anyway. These types of themes are a bit cheesy unless really well done, and this one was not well done I'll be the first to admit. I was very skeptical from the get-go. Trying to recapture a skateboard deck thru r/c is never easy. At least they'll peel off easy since they never really stuck very well anyway. Not to mention I'll need to order a new sheet just to refill that spot in the inventory. Wish I hadn't cut them.Coelacanth wrote:I think it would look better without...er....stickers, too. I think it looked pretty bad-ass without any stickers...kind of Mad Max'ish.

Re: Spring/Summer Runner
The on/off switch on my Mamba Max came off and I had to order a fine tip for my soldering iron to fix it. Until then I'll use the Sidewinder. It'll do just fine for this truck. I put in a pretty decent Hitec servo to improve steering. Spektrum rx. Cheesy DECALS removed. Now I'm all set for action.

I like to think it could transport this. I've always felt bad for it when the guy is trying to kick it over or when it's on the ice.LTO_Dave wrote:I love the stealthy black look and the trimming of the body looks so much better than stock.

I have the original body that came with my slash and its really beatup especially around the fenders.
And now youve given me an idea that will extend the life even more.
i'm cutting the fenders off tommorow and painting the outside.
What kind of paint did you use on the outside ?

Rustoleum High Temperature Grill Paint. It has a texture all it's own. I used it on some Savage wheels years ago and really liked the effect. It's very durable too.Jayar wrote:What kind of paint did you use on the outside ?

Re: Spring/Summer Runner Strike Complete
Bump. I had been thinking about dusting this off for some springtime fun and XLR8 posting that video kinda sealed the deal so I dug it out today. It's in pretty good shape aside from the caked on dirt. I forgot about those old lipos. They were pretty good for the money. Curious if they will charge. I have some newer ones, but I'll still try just to see what happens. I bought a new brushless system with no specific plan for it. I have a 17.5 and 10.5. This would be a good candidate for the 10.5 I think. Strange choice of electronics I made on this one originally.
