Sand Super OT-30 tyres on eBay from 2 different sources ????

Post by Bormac »

I'm sure that I am not the only person here to notice that Marwan is competing with another seller with these repro OT-30 Optima tyres.

Can anybody fill me in on what is going on here as I thought Marwan repro'd these tyres first.

Also, who repro's the better tyre of the two?

From the OptimaHouse website:

OT-30 story

Two weeks after I published the news of Marwan's OT-30 reproductions, I got a mail from Jose R, an other spanish optimaniac since 1985, which was quite surprising.

He remembers seeing my post in 2009 about the craze of the OT-30 burning prices (selling at about 90€ for 4 tires on ebay but recently their prices peaked at about 60€ for 2).
Since then, Jose was developing a repro project of the OT-30 during his freetime (he badly needed 40 tires, lol), and this month (janury 2011), he ended the production of a good bunch of them and was planning to begin to sell them.
So it was pure coincidence when he saw that Marwan also did manage to repro the OT-30, from Koweit!"
It seems like they know each other, at least. I can't comment on the quality of either tire set, though...

From what I read on theoptimahouse is that they are made by 2 different people, I think they are both good a lot of engineering design went in to them. And now Marwan makes OT-66 which are 2.0 I think and the others are 1.6 I sure he makes Scorpion tires.

The Spanish guy only makes OT-30 tires, hi is a big Optima fan! I have tested his tires, and they are good! I tiny bit harder than the original OT-30, but works bountiful and I can’t tell the different between the real thing. But I haven’t tested Mawans OT-30, so I can’t compare.

I'd recommend the spanish ones ;0)..

btw, I recently picked up a spare set of MkI original (4 x white plastic) 'sand super' optima wheels, reason they're spares is sadly some numbnuts spray painted them (cellulose car paint) red.. I've got most of the paint off... any suggestions to get them really clean (without resorting to magnifying glass and scalpel)

thanks!
Lofty

Soak in brake fluid or oven cleaner, like for lexan bodies? But I'm not sure the plastic can stand it...

:D :D :D :D I'm that spanish guy!!!! :D :D :D :D ........Yes, the one of the OT-30 tires

is always nice to see that kind of comments, this encourages me to do more parts with same high attention to detail.

about my tires, I try to send only the best, so I check each tire and let the ones that have some kind of imperfection at home to be sold at cheaper price when I have enough to complete several sets , they are perfect for those cars that are going to touch the floor from time to time instead of been always impolute in the shelf queen.

LOFTFIND: how about those wheels ? brake fluid worked ok? I'm sure it removed all the paint, but ...they ended white ?.... or they ended reddish tinted like when you dye nylon parts?

sorry for not having avatar yet, I will add a nice pict soon.

thank you paul,
I´m new in this forum, but I´m sure I´m going to learn and enjoy a lot reading it's hundreds of posts.
I like all the 80's rc cars, but specially those with twin rail metal chassis, like optima and scorpion.

Hi Lars!!

Is always nice to hear from you!! a full year has passed since last time we talk,

about my optima collection I plan to have them all together in a shelf queen at home for this summer, by the moment they are sleeping in cardboard boxes along with a lot of bubble plastic waiting for me.

I promise to upload some pictures in this forum this summer.

Jose.
