Well the same racing buddy of mine that hooked me up with the rusty Optima Mid shows up to the track the other day with a Lowe's bucket with a For Sale sign on it. $40 for the contents. He had a 10L with the Cheetah Telesis chassis, a fiberglass 10L, and another partial fiberglass 10L with a hacked chassis. The Cheetah chassis was in good condition. It had been in a wreck, I'm guessing shortly after it was put together due to the lack of usage marks on the bottom. The rear top pod plate had been cracked off where the ball stud bolts through and the t plate broken in two. Also a slight hickey on the very front where the bumper bolts on. So I tell him I'll get it from him.
He brought a Ultima DB clone that he bought from Hobby King to test run for the first time. Plastic shocks had in them what I guessed was 90wt gear oil. I had a set of new losi shocks that I pulled off of my Losi SCB when I installed my tune up kit. So I asked if he wanted to trade them and $20 bucks for the contents of the bucket. He said forget it and we'll trade straight across. OK by me!
So I start tearing the Cheetah car apart to find out what it needs. (project #356

) Turns out the rear upper pod plate and T plate were the only things in dire need of replacement. The front end was a 10LSS setup that had seen better days, so I threw on a 10L2 dynamic front end. The stock gold shock had been ignored of any maintenance and it had blew the bottom out of it along with all of its oil. Rather than screw with it I just slapped on an extra team shock I had in my parts bin. I made my own front bumper out of some Kydex. The car came with a Futaba s132H servo which I will be reusing. I still need to mount it and add some steering links. I am going to make some CF nerf wings for it if I ever find my Dremel. Added a set of HPI 5 star 10L wheels. I will also need to strip the chrome off of the rears, dye them black, and install some donuts.
The motor came from my stash, unfortunately it did not already come installed on the "bucket" car.
My plan is to mount a 200mm HPI 1970 Mustang body to it if the widths are correct.
Anyway, I think it turned out OK so far. More pics as progress continues.
