Will dying parts wreck my pot?

Will using Rit black dye cause my death?......I mean will my wife kill me for turning her pot black?

No, and maybe- if you use the liquid it leaves less residue, it will stain non stick pots either way. A regular stainless steel pot only needs the residue rinsed and scrubbed out after.

I used my wife's nice teflon, Calphalon pot at first and it took some scrubbing to really get rid of the residue. After that I went to a garage sale and bought a banged up stainless steel and copper pot for about $3, and I use that now.

The last time I dyed parts I boiled the water and dumped it into a plastic container containg the powder. Then threw the parts in and stirred it all around. Stirred again every 10 minutes or so until it cooled completely. The Rit took very well and no risk to the pan. In the past when using pans I've never ruined one though. Just a thought if you want to go risk free.

just use some light steel wool to get all the residual dye out (stainless steel pot) it comes up as good as new

Have you ever seen a blue chicken? I did when I was a much younger! I used my Moms large pot to dye some parts! Hey, It was the only large one that would fit a chassis! Well after cleaning the pot and what I thought was no evidence remaining! Well.... that Sunday dinner never went over very well for the family! I can laugh now though!

Use stainless only and clean asap!

My mom had a non stick pot on the stove that she kept potpouri in to keep the kitchen smelling nice, after the winter was over she cleaned it up and put it away. A few months later she made scalloped potatoes in that pot and all you could taste other than the ham, cheese and potato was that damn potpouri stuff.

I use my Teflon pans all the time and just rinse them out as soon as I am done then toss it in the dish washer. I've never had any problems.

i used an old glass pyrex pot a few times no staining just rinsed out.

Glass or stainless steel is perfect. I wouldn't mess with Teflon coatings, myself. The cheap disposable tin casserole pans from the grocery store are great, too, over a gas range or BBQ grille. And in anything that you need to clean up, SoftScrub with bleach is your friend.

this is what mine looks like after years of use. i'll rarely scrub it with a pad. i've dyed quite a bit with this pot.
